Exhaust Mod - Do you think it would work?

I have been thinking about my TRD exhaust. Let me know if you think this is doable. I know the rear mount is back behind the muffler, so I would have to figure that part out, but here is the basics of what I am thinking.

1.) Cut off the tip right before the right hand bend that turns it behind the passenger side rear tire.

2.) Weld a 2 inch sleeve to the tip at the end that you just cut. The inner diameter of the sleeve should be the outer diameter of the exhaust.

3.) Drill a hole through the exhaust on the vehicle about 1 inch in from the cut end and weld a pin through the exhaust so that it extends slightly out both sides of the exhaust.

4.) Notch the sleeve of the exhaust tip so that it can slid past the pins, then rotate slightly and lock into place on the pins. Use a small screw through the sleeve and into the exhaust to hold the tip in place and keep it from rotating and then sliding off.

5.) When ready to wheel, remove the screw, rotate the tip/sleeve, then slide it back and off. No more flattened TRD exhaust when dropping off a rock or ledge.

Hey dude. Someone on here did that exact thing.. Well same exact idea. It looked pretty cool and the thread on it had lots of pics and good explanations. I don't know what it was titled, but I'm sure someone on here will remember it too.

They welded a section of pipe just in front of the muffler that had a valve and branched off to an open end. Flip the switch and you could bypass everything. I'm guessing it is pretty loud.

I was trying to keep the muffler in the loop and do the cut just behind the muffler, just remove the tip for wheeling and hopefully get by NJ motor vehicle inspections with it installed. I may have to try to figure out some sort of seal for the sleeve to prevent leaks. Asbestos?

I guess you could do the same thing behind the muffler. Good luck with figuring it all out. I've never lived where they do any kind of vehicular inspections... forgot to consider that one.

The idea sounds like it would work. In order to pass an inspection, I'm sure that you could just stick one of the U-bolt brackets that usually go on cat back exhaust systems so it looks like it's part of the exhaust.
