My MPG report

Ok for all you haters out there, or just plain worriers.

My best MPG stock was 21 mpg, with 93 octane on pure highway with cruise control going 75 mph.

My worst MPG lifted with 33s is 15 mpg on 93 octane in the city. I'm talking as aggressive as driving gets, flooring it, in and out of traffic the works. Even a couple of high speed drives (100 mph+).

Right now I'm testing 87 octane on the highway. I've got to drive around 200 miles tomorrow so I'll see what I get.

BTW an easy way of calculating mpg...

Fill up, press your trip reset. Fill up however many miles later and then divide the amount of gas you put in with the amount of miles driven.

Simple, and BTW the tank is 19 US Gallons, and the low fuel light comes on with 4 US gallons left.

So if people keep *****ing about low MPG, then you shouldn't have bought an SUV, especially not an FJ.

Go buy a Prius...

I pretty much now know that my MPG is probably 19/16 (highway/ city). Not too shabby.

Nice write up. My totally stock '08 TTSE usally averages about 16 MPG on LA freeway driving (traffic). On the open road driving to Oregon at about 75 mph I have averaged better than 22 MPG. I always run it on 91 octane. I am happy with the ride and gas is affordable , so no Prius in my future!

Re: My MPG report

I get 16.5 or 17 mpg most of the time. We wanted better mpg so we bought a 2009 TDI Jetta last July. My wife gets like 44 mpg on the highway and 36 overall average. Just wish the FJ could get near the 36 average.

Re: My MPG report

I am averaging 20 mpg on 85 octane. I have gotten over 25 on the highway. My rig is stock except for the Demello bumper.

Re: My MPG report

Well I tried testing 87 octane on a pure highway trip, but I had to pull over at half a tank, because the engine had no power... It retarded the timing way low and it felt like I was driving a bus.

So I stopped at a Shell and filled up half a tank of 93, much much better! It ruined my mpg test, but oh well. I'm never running 87 again. I've heard people run 87 regularly, maybe they don't care, or maybe the 87 gas I put in was cheap gas and was actually lower than that. I drive in Atlanta and need passing power. I also like to drive fairly fast, so looks like I'm sticking to 93.

I haven't tried mid-grade, but I've run it before and never noticed any real problems.

IMO if Toyota recommends premium, you should try running premium, they built and designed the motor...

25mpg on the highway??? Dang, I could never get better than 21...

Is your FJ 4x2 AT?

Average Speed?

Terrian? Flat, hilly, mountains?

Road condition?

Traffic level?

Cruise Control?

I've been seeing a ton of questions regarding MPG with lifts, bumpers, winches, skids, tires, etc. So I decided to record my MPG with all of my new mods...

I really like it. My wife likes it but still misses her 350Z. I hope to program it next year. If I had the money I would trade my FJ for a Touareg 2. I really like the Diesel. Only if Toyota would make a FJ or 4runner with a diesel.
