Opinions on Car Camping Tents

I've used a lot of tents in my short life here and discovered the following:
REI Basecamp 6: Outstanding performance, easy to set up, strong alum poles not crappy fiberglass that snap, FULL coverage rainfly and two vestibules for storing gear outside. We use this tent mainly for beach and mountain use. It handles high winds very well IF staked out properly.
Choice 2 would be Springbar Traveler 5. It's the best desert, (Moab) tent there is. Holds up well in high winds, again if staked out right, and has great venting.
That's all for me......I actually think there was a LONG list on a previous forum too so ya might want to explore that.

For backpacking I have a Warlrus and for my FJ I have a Kelty Yellowstone.The Yellowstone is a great deal for the money but you wouldn't want to carry it very far. It has lots of room though.

I have found that it really depends on where and when you plan to use it. My lightwight tents are great in the high mountain summers, but are worthless in late fall when we see wet snow.

For car camping, I prefer a full fly option, so I can use it whenever I need, and good ventilation options. In addition to the REI Basecamp, check out the Sierra Designs Bedouin 6 (or the new Bedouin Annex 4+2) which has a great rainfly/vestible with lots of room front and rear for keeping stuff out of the elements.

Thanks for the input. I just want to be comfortable and have something that is relatively east to set up.


That being said.....Did you see the E1 for sale....7k...guess I need that now.

This FJ thing is going to cut into the old college fund..
