I think that I found the fuel and water pack system that I will get for my FJ. I was perusing Gander Mountain today and found these...
They are a bit pricey ($80-$90 each), only 4 gallons, and made for ATVs, but they are hella tough and you could strap them on in many different ways. I didn't try it, but I can not emphasize how tough these appeared to be made - I'm pretty sure that you could stand on them without deforming them. They even have an innovative mounting system (brackets - $25 each) that could possibly be adapted for the back of the FJ...
Anyway, I couldn't find any information anywhere on the forum about them and so thought I would throw them out there for comment and see if anybody has used them before.
hmm, that looks IDENTICAL to the expedition one "Geri" cans they are making.
I'm still not sure i would understand the benefit of using those over Scepter or Steel cans such as the Wedco (my preference).

I was not aware of those. The introductory price is $69. However, they are not yet CARB approved and I am in a CARB state - The Kolpin is supposedly CARB compliant.
Hey looks pretty cool. Be even better if they do hold a larger capacity.
Btw, title is fixed.
Thanks for fixin' the title for me. True about the capacity. However, because they are stackable, it makes it much more practical to have two of those than say two Scepter cans - heck, may even more practical to have two of the Kolpins or Expedition One Geris (also 4 gallons) than one 5 gal. Scepter...
Plus, you can do THIS with them (combination sand/mud tracks and fuel cans anybody? - it would be cool to design these for such a combo...)
But will they leak like the Wedco and other steel Jerry cans???? Love the idea and practicality of these things but will wait until I hear further about leakage.

NP with fixing the thread title. Do you think these will be as strong as the Geri pictured?
Yes, they both have an 800lb load rating. Try running over a Scepter! I'm not advocating for one brand over the other, but the Kolpin is supposedly CARB rated which makes a huge difference to some.
I would say that this system looks fantastic and if you were bent upon carrying a fuel can on the top of your roof rack (let's not start that debate again here...), this system would be the safest to secure IMO. The versatility of this system is astounding.

I stand corrected... Ownage! That's pretty impressive... So... I'm guessing that they didn't drive up on there... show me wrong again... Still, I was looking at a Scepter fuel tank today and if it will hold up to this, the Expedition One Geri or Kolpin fuel tank ought to be outright indestructible...
