Rear Door Cargo Case

I found a rifle case at the surplus that fits great on the back door. There are two attachment points on the door that I utilized with longer screws, washers and spacers and the handle in the middle goes under the window latch for more support (although it is really not needed). As you can see, there are a lot of attachment points for more gear on the front of the case for straps, e-tool, flashlight, air compressor, and first aid kit. I actually keep my fishing poles in the rifle pouches. I thought this was a great find for $65.

New set of Terra Grapplers

I sprung for a new set of Terra Grapplers today - replacing the stock Dunlop Dueler HT 840's. Much has been posted about each - I'll try not to repeat.

I hated the Duelers in snow, (never felt all that secure in the wet either) so my primary purpose was picking these up before things get interesting in Chicagoland.

The Grapplers are slightly more noisy, a tad stiffer in ride, steering feels a bit lighter, and there's less sidewall roll when cornering.

The looks of the tire is a side benefit. I'll follow up with snow impressions after we start to get some flaky stuff on the ground here, but I'm looking forward to more traction than the Dunlops were providing.

Thanks to everyone that posted information about so many sets of tires that allowed me - as well as others - make a knowledgeable decision when replacing the rubber.

Thanks!

Stopping The Mud From Getting On The Rad

Here is how I stopped the MUD from getting in
It works really good,,,,, as you will see I did all the mud pits and did not get any mud on my rad :) sorry there is no video of my FJ going thru,,, But you can see the mud was flying in all the pits http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeKtg5dMdeA ,, I do have a video of my FJ a few weeks before I fix this problem,, in the same mud holes, and you can really see how the mud was getting in,,, O yes I was over heating on the way home,, But not any more http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVsKWJS8rYc,, easy to fix and only takes 1 or 2 hours to do,, I just went out and got some plastic cardboard and cut it to fit,,,,,, So all of you with the stock front ends can do this too. Also you can make one that is removable for the upper mess area by the Toyota name, if you like going deeper in MUD,, good luck and have fun with it,, it will save you from OVER HEATING and less cleaning time.

The subs are already mounted in the box and the amp is an mtx 325w 2-channel. All the wires are included and are Monster Cable. They are taking up space and I need to get rid of them before I move.

The set up is worth $540 new. I am asking $250. I am in Tewksbury, MA. I cannot ship so local pickup only. My camera is out of order right now so I can't take pics but they are in great condition.

should have put "jeep" on the front grille.

as of 54,000 miles, here's a list of what broke:

-shift linkage and ENTIRE transmission (6MT)--warranty covered it. unclear if this was a TO issue or a synchro issue
-intermittent wipers (off warranty, can't afford to fix it)
-clutch start cancel (off warranty)
-driver's seat height adjustment (off warranty)
-cracked windshield (questionable crappy design and bad luck)
-AUX input for stereo lots of static (off warranty)
-oil around head gasket, looks like leak, dealership says it isn't but can't explain as to why it's there (going back this weekend)
-transfer case is now sticking in 4H locked (another trip to the dealer is warranted)

i emailed and called toyota, they seem unconcerned that i spent 25k on a really bad car.

Now mind you this is our first time using the pocket camcorder (Kodak Zi8). We shot this in 720p but it can shoot in 1080p as well. No real footage of the FJ but it is shot FROM the FJ... looking out into the beautiful scenery we had on our little outing. Don''t mind the song... it was not planned to be playing but if you are wondering who it is... it is The Avery Brothers.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi all. Just purchased my first Toyota and I wanted to say hello. I must say I am impressed so far.

Picked up a 2007 Titanium Silver FJC last Friday (when it was snowing!). She only had 11K miles on her - One owner vehicle originally titled in Ohio. The day after purchase, I took her to my friend's body shop and we spent about 4 hours on it. Wash, cut down, polish, wash, and wax. This took out any and all minor scratches on the paint.

Looks like the previous owner installed spacers (LIFTTOY ??) up front to level it out a bit. Brand new 285/70/17s A/Ts on it, 6MT, Locking rear, roof rack, sonar, fairly basic but very happy. $26K out the door. Plus they actually paid us 600 more for our Outback than what we paid 6 months ago (bought that used too).

Monday morning I am taking her down to get the front windows tinted to match the rear and a clear bra (to include minor touch ups on a couple paint chips).

Since I have been lurking on here though, I have gotten a tad concerned/worried/paranoid about some of the issues out there. Throw out bearings, bulges/tears. What gives? I thought I was buying a Toyota - i.e. great track record. Oh well... I guess all companies have their issues. Only thing is, now I am paranoid about something happening. No bulges and no problems with the tranny... yet. Are these things I need to be overly concerned about? I really just want to enjoy the ownership of this thing.

I have to say though, I love the build quality of this thing. My other car is a 2006 Audi S4. Hard to beat that interior but the fit and finish of the FJ is great in comparison. Not a rattle or squeak as we go down the road!

Anyway, I am going go now. I am starting to ramble. I am sure you will see more of me
