should have put "jeep" on the front grille.

as of 54,000 miles, here's a list of what broke:

-shift linkage and ENTIRE transmission (6MT)--warranty covered it. unclear if this was a TO issue or a synchro issue
-intermittent wipers (off warranty, can't afford to fix it)
-clutch start cancel (off warranty)
-driver's seat height adjustment (off warranty)
-cracked windshield (questionable crappy design and bad luck)
-AUX input for stereo lots of static (off warranty)
-oil around head gasket, looks like leak, dealership says it isn't but can't explain as to why it's there (going back this weekend)
-transfer case is now sticking in 4H locked (another trip to the dealer is warranted)

i emailed and called toyota, they seem unconcerned that i spent 25k on a really bad car.

When towing something, or when stopping heavier than a normal light stop (not super heavy like slamming on the brakes or ABS engaging) the FJ stops, but then a few seconds later "bumps". It inches forward just a bit. It does this to me multiple times a day. The last time my wife was with me, we were in traffic and she thought someone hit us from behind.

Any one else having this issue or know what it is?

HEY GUYS,

I am new to the forum and want to some help BADLY. I have an 07 FJC with 25000 miles, AT and 4x4. Three days ago I was pulling out of the drive way when the engine turned off. I turned it back on and the warning lights came on (VSC, EBRAKE,TRAC,ABS,CEL). Ever since the truck turns on and i can run maybe 10 to 20 miles before it goes out again. Everytime i press the brake pedal the engine looses power and in some cases turns of. Also, after i turn in back on and i put it in DRIVE it hesitates before going in drive. The thing is that i am in a third world country where scanners and all that stuff is a luxury. I change the fuel pump thinking that was the problem but obviously it was not. Although after changing the fuel pump the engine holds out longer. I also changed the battery just in case. I checked all the fuses and they are good. Please advise.

THANKS,

So I bought the E1 Diamond front winch bumper (as you can see in my pic) during the forum group buy. The bumper looks great but.......................here is the catch. The powder coating is rusting off all over the place! Is anyone else experiencing this issue? The powder coating is bubbled up all over and starting to peel bad. Now I am going to have to take the entire bumper off, including winch, and redo it. I have had it less than a year?!?! I thought powder coating was suppossed to be really tough? Any suggestions before I call E1? I am thinking of redoing the entire bumper in spray in bed liner.:boohoo:

Hello,
I would need some help here, as I just bought a FJ Cruiser 2008 Trail Team, I do have 30 k miles on it and there is one thing happening:
If I do have to stop fast, after I get of the brake it seams that there is something moving forward, means it feels like the axel, joint or something is moving even as I still stay still?:thinkerg: As I do have still factory warranty, could somebody suggest a good toyota dealer in L.A.
Thanks for the help and have a great day
regards

I took my truck in to the dealer the other day because my throw out bearing is begining to squeal. Im at 74000 kms and according to this dealer the throw out bearing is cover under warranty. They had my truck in the shop for 10 minutes before a mechanic came to tell me that 'yes' it is the throw out bearing making all the noise, but you also need a new clutch, which obviously isn't covered. So $350 for a clutch, and $90 to get the pressure plate machined. I said OK, took my truck and left.
Right now in my garage I have my truck jacked up trying to figure out how they checked my clutch in 10 minutes or less. Can anyone help?

I bought my 08 MT last Dec. I First noticed the tapping in May (when it was warm enough to roll the windows down ) My tap only occurs at idle, and when you push the clutch in it goes away. In May my clutch and throwout bearing were replaced. The tap came back in September/October, this time faster and louder than the first. So I took it back and the dealer is replacing the clutch and bearing again. They decided to replace the transmission after pulling apart the clutch (?) I was supposed to get my rig back today. But I just got off the phone with the service guy and they are replacing the exhaust manifold now. (?) I'm wondering what these three components have to do with each other......

Denied Warranty on CV boots because of mud packed around my skid plate

Hello every one
Anyone know what the process is for Toyota Canada to deal with a dealership that denies you warranty in Canada. Here is my story..... So when I dropped it off last time the technician asked me if there was anything else they could help with. I though we’ll I have a strange intermittent sticky spot in my steering. The service department person comes back with pictures of the whole under side of my vehicle focusing on any where there was mud. The crappy part was I had been quite stuck on an old logging road when I went fishing and was pulled out backwards and had not sprayed the underside as good as I usually do. The OEM skid plate acts as a scoop when you are pulled out is what I learned. The feeling in the steering was due to a piece of mud rolling around. The service representative tells me I should be careful because that kind of stuff could void my warranty. I thought at the time that was strange comment and got a weird feeling.....however I was so sick of dealing with them that I just said sorry for wasting your time and offered to pay the minimum shop time. I was not charged for it and I was on my way. So at the same time of all this I had a leaking CV boot fixed as well. Right away I noticed grease near the CV but thought it was the old grease from the leaking CV as they did not clean the surrounding area when it was repaired. Later on I clean the underside and the dirt packed in around the skid plate and notice the CV boot is still leaking....the rubber seems very stiff compared to the other side. I believe the guy that took the pictures was the same technician that botched the rack install (I noticed the same service technician #). Well the service representative happened to give my FJ to the guy who botched the rack install and he wrote down that all my CV boots and axle seals are damaged from abuse and mud was packed all around them etc. They were not and I did not notice any seals leaking yet. There was mud packed in around my skid plate and around my trany but not around my CV’s. The only picture they are going on is one showing my CV boot is leaking and of course there is dirt there (see there pic).
Image: http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/gallery/data/500/medium/Leaking_boot.jpg
The dealer now claims I have no warranty on these parts. I have also been denied warranty on the leaking CV boot. I could understand denying warrenty on my rack and pinion boot as there was definiently mud hindering its operation but the CV boot I do not agree with. I know its such a minor thing and easy to fix but that really is not the point. So is there any recourse when you are getting black balled so to speak by your dealer’s service department? The service department has just been a nightmare to deal with. At this point I’m ready to just right the company off but part of me wants to fight it because I feel like I’m getting screwed. Plus I was dumb enough to purchase one of those expensive extended warrantys. Any way you guys could help point me in the right direction to solve this I would be appreciated as I’m at my end of understanding.

Dealer Oil/Lube Problems

Hi All - I live in Olympia, Washington and am fortunate to have a local Toyota dealer who is above average in sales/service. In fact, I have purchased well over a dozen vehicles from them. However, there is one issue that I have not been able to resolve - getting the driveline lubed on my FJ.

The dealer has a "quick lube" facility that just can't seem to remember to lube the driveline. There is a large window in the waiting room where I can see my FJ being serviced. Most of the time, they forget to lube the d/l or if they do, they don't get all the zerks.

Since I can see the vehicle being serviced, I know the d/l doesn't get lubed or they have missed some zerks. I ask "Did you lube the d/l? Did you lube all six zerks? The person behind the counter asks the tech and the answer is usually "Whoops, I forgot. Most Toyota drivelines don't need to be lubed and it was overlooked." Of course, they pull the FJ back in and do the work. This must be costly to them, you would think they would learn. *Hey, its a FJ Cruiser, 4WD! You have to lube the driveline!! All six zerks!!! *
I have spoken to several people at the dealership, all are understanding, but the problem goes on. You may wonder why I continue to use their quick lube facility. Well, the work does get done, it just takes them twice as long to do it.

I just ordered six K&N oil filters, will do it myself from now on and know that its done correctly. Yeah, I know, I should have done this after about the second time they forgot the d/l.

Just had to vent!

Hello,

I did a search and found an old thread where Bernardi offered a Platinum No Deductible Ext Warranty for 84 mo/75k miles for $680. Unfortunately, they appear to no longer be selling these as the web-site does not work. Can someone tell me the next best priced place to purchase this same extended warranty?

Thanks

Maintenance schedule

Anyone know if there is a maintenance schedule available that identifies at what mileage - what gets inspected, replaced, etc.? (a matrix like grid usually in the owners manual)

Most every vehicle I've owned has one available

I've been though the manual and haven't found it - looked at the pdf manual and it's not in there either.

If someone has a link to it, can you send it please?

I'd like to use it to compare the "advice" I'm getting form the dealership for what needs to be replaced, flushed, etc at what mile interval.

Thanks!

I'd like to use it to compare the "advice" I'm getting form the dealership for what needs to be replaced, flushed, etc at what mile interval.

Thanks!

I needed to blow off some steam so bear with me.

I took my FJ in to have the fill drive line fluids changed they were also going to replace a leaking diff seal on the drivers side. Much to my suprise I get a call at 2pm ta-da my FJ is done so I went with a friend over to get it.

Upon inspection I discovered that of the 10 quarts of Mobil 1 synthetic 75w-90 I provided them (I know you only need 8 or so), they only used 5. I went back in and asked the service guy how they could have managed such a feat and he flat out told me that the numbers in my manual were not correct.

Now I could understand being off a little bit but 3 quarts is pretty excessive.

I also asked that because there was no way in hell they filled it with 5 quarts what did they top it off with.

They guy decides that he better go find the mechanic that did the job, only to discover that the mechanic has left for the day...how convenient. He also assured me that he would ask him tomorrow and give me a call. He then went off on this exciting tale of the rear diff only talking 2 quarts.

I was to say the very least mad at this point and told him I was looking forward to his phone call in the morning.

I now am having a locally owned toyota's only place do the job, again, on thursday.

Did I mentioned that they charged me 130 some odd dollars to do the job?

Talk about spoon feeding

Round Rock Toyota Honesty Issues

I am going to omit a lot of detail here, but here is a quick summary:

I took my 07 FJ in for the "Rear Brake Squeals in Reverse" TSB yesterday. Prior to arriving, I had a detailed discussion with my service adviser about what the TSB would entail. He told me that they would do rotors, pads, clips, and grease.

He called today to let me know that my FJ was done. I asked him to review the parts list with me, and SURPRISE!!! No pads. We "resurfaced" your 32,000 mile pads.

So after a very unpleasant argument with him (where he denied telling me that they were going to replace the pads, and was very disrespectful)I spoke with the "Service Manager." He was equally worthless. When I questioned their integrity, he only wanted to discuss technical aspects of why it is not essential to replace the pads. I really don't care about that, I understand that it is not mandatory, but I don't do things that way. If you are in there with everything disassembled, then make it right.

This is all about integrity and customer service. My family owns 3 Toyota's and I will not return to Round Rock Toyota. PM me if you are in the Austin area and want more specific information.

I am now on my 3rd stock radio from Toyota. I have Sirus radio. The Sat button will work and then stop working for 2-3 days at a time. if I change to AM radio, it will get stuck on AM. No matter how many times I push the button, NO SAT!!

Anyone else have this issue? Cause or solution?
