2010 Army Green 4x4 automatic.

MSRP - 31950, pretty loaded up. Dealer will sell for 30k, comes in next week.

2008 Brick 4x4 automatic. equipped almost identical to the 2010. Only has 1500 miles, comes with toyota certified warranty and balance of 3/36 (of which I will hit miles well before months.

$27500 is what the dealer will sell it for. No way they will go any lower.

I like the dealer, and it's down to these two cars.

So... $2500.00 bucks saved on used one. Add a bit on the powertrain warranty. Deal with a few scratches. (will I really need that warranty though after all, it's a toyota?).

Or is this what I think it is and a 6 in one, half dozen in the other situation. Both good deals.

Only strange thing on the used one. It had two owners already. The Car-fax is clean as can be, looks like it was maybe a dealer demo then put on a lease that was turned in early.

Go new, or save $2500 bucks and go used. Of course, model year wise I give up 2 years down the road for resale.

I put a deposit on an Iceberg 4WD FJ 10 days ago that had a delivery date of 10/30/09. Dealer initially told me I should be able to take delivery at the beginning of the week since it was in port. The delivery date got pushed back to end of week. Today I call for an update and the dealer has no idea where my vehicle is. She already started looking for another vehicle but the problem is there aren't any Icebergs out there or with an incoming date that haven't been pre-sold. I can take the 2WD TRD that she has or maybe she can find another color. Any advice? Why me?

Love the forum and community, lots of great info here. I had a 2005 Tacoma Access 4x4 TRD off road. Traded it in for 06 Camry. I recently got back from deployment to Iraq and am ready to buy the second vehicle I've always wanted.

I'm looking at

#1 A dealer 07 silver 6 speed FJ with 24000 miles and option package #1. The list price is $24,995.

#2 Private Seller black 6 speed FJ with 40000 miles and option package #2 and a towing option as well. Asking for $23,000.

Anybody have any thoughts? I hate the whole care buying process.

What Should I Expect to Pay for a 2009 Today?

There's still a 2009 (which I happen to like -- manual trans., brick red, good options) sitting on my local dealer's lot. What sort of discount can I expect or hope for given that it's the end of October and this truck is sitting right next to a bunch of 2010s. MSRP is right around $30K. What would a reasonable offer be? Where should I hope to end up? Basically, if the discount is not significant, then I'd just as soon order a 2010 and have a one-year-newer vehicle... Any thoughts would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Hello
I bought a new FJ from Mark Miller Toyota in SLC. Just wanted to let everyone know that they were excellent to deal with. Very low pressure and mellow sales staff. I told the finance manager that I didn't want the warranty before I got there and he had all the paperwork as such, didn't even try to push it "one last time". Very happy with my salesman Chuck and the whole buying experience.
Highly Recommended!!!

2010 negotiations - how off am I?

I'm going tomorrow to try to buy a 2010. Bear with me, this may take a while! The truck has the Convenience Package and All Terrain Package. Other options are the Pax arm rest, roof rack, and wheel locks. Total sticker with Dest. charge is $30535. Going off Consumer Reports and Edmunds, it looks like the total invoice should be around $27790...which includes the $800 Destination charge, but not the $505 holdback...assuming of course that my numbers are accurate. I believe they are close, though as 007 pointed out in another thread, may not be spot on.

I'm very willing to give the dealer some profit. I understand they need to stay in business and I want them to stay in business. My plan is to start negotiations with a 3% profit margin added to the $27790, and will work up as needed till we agree on a price, or I leave to regroup.

Questions:
1. On the holdback, my understanding is that the dealer will get this eventually once the vehicle sells, so I subtracted this from the starting point of the truck. I'm willing to pay the destination charge, but don't believe I should be charged for the holdback amount. So the base invoice price I'm using is (from CR) $23542 ($23247 base invoice + Destination - holdback). Seems to me they are double dipping on the holdback if I get charged for it, and then they get the money from Toyota. School me in simple terms on holdback if I'm mistaken, please!
2. Should I base the profit margin on the (approximate) invoice price of $27790, or off the base price of the vehicle (w/out options/packages)?
3. Since my Sube hasn't sold, I'll have to work a trade, but want to determine the price of the truck first. Or, since I know approximately how much I want to finance (going off the total amount, not monthly - I'm pre-approved), should I just work on an out-the-door price all at once?

As I said earlier, I want the dealer to make some money and keep the doors open. I don't want to haggle down to the gnats a**, but do want to settle on a fair price to both me and the dealer. Wish me luck, and please let me know if my logic is incorrect - I understand my numbers may be off a bit from reality. I've never bought a new vehicle, let alone a new one with a trade, so this is a bit new to me.
