Stopping The Mud From Getting On The Rad

Here is how I stopped the MUD from getting in
It works really good,,,,, as you will see I did all the mud pits and did not get any mud on my rad :) sorry there is no video of my FJ going thru,,, But you can see the mud was flying in all the pits http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeKtg5dMdeA ,, I do have a video of my FJ a few weeks before I fix this problem,, in the same mud holes, and you can really see how the mud was getting in,,, O yes I was over heating on the way home,, But not any more http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVsKWJS8rYc,, easy to fix and only takes 1 or 2 hours to do,, I just went out and got some plastic cardboard and cut it to fit,,,,,, So all of you with the stock front ends can do this too. Also you can make one that is removable for the upper mess area by the Toyota name, if you like going deeper in MUD,, good luck and have fun with it,, it will save you from OVER HEATING and less cleaning time.

Dual transfer case question

I know that the FJ cant fit a dual transfer case without a lot of modification, what I want to understand is the purpose of a dual dransfer case. Is it to give the driver more gearing options for any situation? Does the driver shift one case into neutral to utilize the gears in the other case?

1. Is set up difficult?

2. who has the best deal going....they seem pricey.

3. How many lumens for the 32in light bar........and is it REALLY that bright?

Ok I am done with cb's. They dont work well when I need them. I would do better with smoke signals. So I am looking into HAM radios. Specifically the ICOM V8000. This is the radio that alot of the Tin Benders use. The reason is that is can be easily modified to transmit up to 174.000. I need to transmit that high because I pit for the Lost Highway team in King Of The Hammers and all the freq. are 148 and higher. I am not stuck on that radio so I am looking for opinons of others that use Hams that can be modified. I also would like to have something that I can program out on the trail if I need to change to a channel that is not stored in the radio already. I dont know if I can do that with the ICOM. I am stil in the early stages of searching for a radio. One other thing, it probably doesnt matter but I would also like to be able to take it out of my rock crawler and put it into the FJ without a big deal. I do that now with the cb. I dont have a problem buying 2 new ant.
I need input from you guys who have more of a clue than I do.

Which skids are most important?

My vehicle is a daily driver, and I only take it offroad a couple times a year. Locally there is mud and no rocks to speak of, but maybe every other year I get up to the mountains for a day or two of moderate rocks. I expect I will take a good, worthy expedition of perhaps a few weeks at some point. A stock 4x4 is probably sufficient for these goals but I don't think I have to explain myself around here for wanting to make some well chosen modifications; but with negligible impact on fuel economy and road handling, and with a general need to be frugal.

I understand Murphy's law, that the protection that you most need is the protection you are missing. But I am also a believer in 80% solutions; particularly when I'll be exposing myself to the probability of damage on so few occasions, it's surely overkill to give my FJ a full belly treatment.

I expect that some of the plates see more abuse than others, or protect more vulnerable locations. Also, some may have the function of allowing one to slide over obstacles, increasing the capability of the vehicle. If we posit based on my reading elsewhere that a gas tank skid probably does least to earn its keep, what single skid is the most crucial, second most crucial, and so on? Some plates are of course interdependent. Consider also that there is at least some measure of stock protection.

Is the front bash plate the most commonly sold because it's the most visible, or is it also the most essential? Obviously it's also the most vertical and most likely to meet an obstruction.

The setting was a very steep concrete retaining wall under a bridge.
I wanted to check out my crawling ability with the new lefty and 4.88 gears.
tranny is auto, 4lo, eased up to check approach all was good.
Crawled up about 50' or so, tilt'O meter was pegged, so I'm guessing not straight up and down, but steep angle.
I stopped, then let off the brakes to ease down, and the engine stalled.
Each time I tried this, same result, so what gives???
What would be the better way in that situation?

Ideas/ Info Thanks

Hi Guys, I have a 2007 6 manual and am attempting to do the Scuba Mod. I 've tried reading all other threads/posts about this mod, but still stuck on something. Transfer Case/Transmission, are they connected into 1 breather? If so is it the black braided tube that I see on the transmission from when I look down the firewall behind the engine?
Main problem though, is how the heck do you get to that breather?

Curious about these axles, I poked around the Atomic Axle web site and had to pick myself up off of the floor after I found an FJ sitting between a couple of Jeeps under Products on the Bolt-In page. It appears that they are in the R & D phase. ATOMIC AXLE L.L.C. (http://www.atomicaxle.com/axles/axles/bolt-in/fj.html)

Curious about these axles, I poked around the Atomic Axle web site and had to pick myself up off of the floor after I found an FJ sitting between a couple of Jeeps under Products on the Bolt-In page. It appears that they are in the R & D phase. ATOMIC AXLE L.L.C.

Remove rock rails for winter?

Well I know Massachusetts isn't all THAT far north compared to some of our members, but we do have our share of cold weather, and that means lots of snow from December-March. What it also means is lots and lots of salt that lingers on the roadways until at least April when the streetsweepers get out to clean up after the mess winter leaves behind.

So since salt eats cars, and rock rails (like cars) are made of steel, I'm thinking of removing them for the winter. I do prefer the protection they afford (on and off the road) but they are also very expensive to have to replace every few years. Mine were primed and painted with Rust Oleum products, but I know the finish will inevitably chip leaving the metal beneath unprotected. Lots of highway miles (30k/year) will do that to anything at wheel height...and I definitely will not be out there in the middle of February re-painting them.

Just wondering if anyone else who lives in an area where they salt the roadways does this. Thanks ahead of time.
