Rock Sliders Install Question - Grease the Frame Holes?

Hi all -

Just about to install my rock sliders, and I'm wondering if I should grease the bolts before securing them to the frame? I checked out the holes on the frame, and they do have some dirt/rust in them. Anytime I work on my bike, I grease any/all bolts before securing them .... should I do the same here?

Please let me know - - I'm anxious to get these on!

Thanks in advance.

Is anyone experincing problems with blown headlights. I've had to replace the drivers side 3 times over the last 10 months due to the low-beam being blown.

My first thought is a short but my FJ has led a sheltered life, no wrecks, offroading or add on's.

I'm always careful when I replace the bulb making sure not to touch the bulb with my bare hand.

Any ideas?

thanks in advance.

Drive train slop.

Ive noticed it for quite a while and never drove another manual FJ, but there seems to be a excessive ammount of slop from/in the T-case to the rear or in the rear. If i grab the drive shaft and twist it back and forth, to me it moves more then it should. If Im stopped just idling and I lift my foot off the clutch semi quickly (not near the point of stalling) it shocks and bangs the whole drive train because its taking up all the slack.

Anybody else feeling this? I know its AWD and theres alots of stuff moving, but really??

So what is it?

I was wheeling a few weeks ago & while on the trail I nailed a stump or a rut or something on the trail. The FJ behind me came on the CB & said "I felt that one" I didn't notice anything strange for the rest of the day. On the way home I did notice that the steering wheel was in a right hand turn position while going straight, a wobble at around 50 to 60 mph, & the sound kind of like a power steering pump/fan belt noise(kind of hard to describe the noise) or a pulley bearing kind of noise. I just figured get it aligned & everything will be good. I got it aligned & still have the wobble & the noise. I have been rotating the tires, 285/75-17 KM2's, Anyone have an idea what it could be? It tracks straight on the road so the alignment is close I assume. I'm thinking that maybe I bent something in the front end, but wouldn't the tech doing the alignment have noticed something? Thoughts? Comments? Thanks guy's:cheers:

Hood Shake

First, hello fellow FJ owners. I have the title to a 2008 Sandstorm 4x2 box stock cruiser with only a skid plate added so far. I seldom see the truck, as it is in Seguin, Texas where my daughter goes to college.

This is our 4th Toyota, and by far the one that stimulates the most conversations. Our daughter cannot fill up the tank without at least one person asking about it, asking what it is and more.

She got this truck after betting me she'd get at least the value in academic scholarship money, and I lost!

To the point; we just had the 15K oil change and tire rotation at Star Toyota this past Friday. On the drive back home in a 15 mph headwind and at 70 mph driving speed the hood shook between the washer nozzles like someone was bouncing a basketball on it. I pulled off and the clearances between the stamped steel channels were much larger in the center.

I called the dealership and they sent me to meet the body shop manager. He has seen this once before and suggested urethane be spread in a few points where the gaps were the most pronounced. I agreed.

Four hours later I drove the vehicle without the head wind up to 80 mph and the hood was rock solid.

* Anyone ever experienced this? What was your solution?*

Future plans are for the cold air intake and not much else. The vehicle is a delight to own, gets 18-19 mpg around town and she can get 20 or so on the drive home from college.

No dad wants to watch his "little girl" leave the driveway on a Sunday after church and head back to school, but I feel better knowing she's in a 4000 pound vehicle full of airbags and with a solid Toyota reputation behind it.

Other Toyotas? 2003 Avalon XLS with 32k mileage. Yes, it's owned by a school teacher that never sees the freeway on her commute. I have a Prius coming as a company provided fleet vehicle that shipped Monday.

Look forward to future boards.
