Exclamation Bumper Camera proto type complete

JT has completed a prototype of a Bumper Camera housing which I was fortunate enough to get installed today to demo. The Camera is from Pioneer and hooked up to my Alpine W200. Image quality is more than sufficient for backing up.

The pictures are at night and from a long day of driving through LA so please excuse the photos.. I'll get some better day ones when I can..

Contact JT for pricing.

Re: Bumper Camera proto type complete

Note the location of the camera is ideal to align tow hitch. Night, dawn, and dusk usage of camera while driving is limited.

For safety I would not recommend SOLELY using a backup camera while driving to perform lane changes however using the camera as another set of "eyes" in the rear is helpful while driving. To me objects appeared farther than where they actually were.

The molded piece looks like it came from Toyota as an option, JT did an excellent job building it. The camera is of course ideal for its intended purpose. I'll get some day pics up later today..

Re: Bumper Camera proto type complete

TY for posting the pics, I'm going to post a few more here that were taken in the shop.

It looks like we will be turning this into a production piece shortly.

TY for being such a willing guineapig for this one

Re: Bumper Camera proto type complete

I thought about that as well.. I'll get pics of the screen view with my tow hitch/ball on so we can see what it looks like.

I like the placement and integrated look of the camera however a downward angle view would be better for towing. Perhaps a camera housing can be made which clamps on to a roof rack?

Re: Bumper Camera proto type complete

We plan to sell the custom painted bumper piece for about $200 on our web site. As a special for forum users we're going to sell it for $149.99 painted to match your FJ until Xmas. The Bumper camera mount is designed for the Pioneer ND-BC1. You simple use double stick tape or another adhesive to get it to stick. It should be a pretty simple installation.

Some really cool things about this piece:
1.You have no obstructions to visibility. If you mount this piece in the bumper you will probably lose some visibility because of the spare.
2. It's centered and located just above the hitch.
3. The mount is custom painted to match your vehicle, and look clean, if you didn't know any better you would think it was factory.
4. You decide to sell the FJ, just put the factory part back on and take the cam with you.

Again, $149.99 for the painted bumper piece (until Xmas).
If you want the piece with the Pioneer cam $399.99

As always contact us for additional info and questions.

Here are some additional pictures:

Re: Bumper Camera proto type complete

Just called JT and and Rod and ordered this nice fab. I just got my Pioneer camera and was going to futz around this weekend to try and find a clean install. This is perfect and clean. They think I should have it in a week or less to the Midwest.
