Kenwood Excelon DNX8120

I'm thinking about getting this head unit. I love the features, navigation, iPod interface, etc. It's pretty much a kick ass unit. Couple of Questions...

1) I know I'll need additional accessories to do the install myself as in: iPod cable, dash kit, wiring harness (I'm thinking about the rear camera but I see that only a Pioneer kit exists, is there one for the Kenwood?) Is there anything else I would need? I would also like to keep my basic steering wheel controls.

2) If I were to get this installed, where and who can give me a kick ass deal?

I was recommended that JT's Cruiser was the guy to talk to. I just wanted to get this head unit to see how I like the sounds in it with just the head unit. I plan to upgrade the speakers but not till later. I might do the sub-woofer for now but that would be all...Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated as I am new on the boards and looking forward to some good times with my TTFJ.

Re: Kenwood Excelon DNX8120

Car Toys right now has a deal with this head unit and others like it (i.e. Pioneer AVIC, Alpine, etc.). They're offering either a free Ipod interface or backup camera (a cheap flush-mount, FYI). But, yes, Kenwood does offer a rear camera which is the one that I opted for. Altogether, a very clean install. The only item not hidden, obviously, was the hands-free mic. FYI, make sure you purchase the head unit from an authorized reseller so don't end up with one of the earlier units with the software issues.

Re: Kenwood Excelon DNX8120

I agree: Make sure the dealer is an authorized dealer, or Kenwood will not honor the warranty. As for the upgrade, the box should say something like "Certified Upgrade" on it. Also if anyone else has one, Kenwood just posted a software fix for bluetooth issues: It enables a whole slew of newer phones to connect through the 8210. Actually the fix is for all the models of Kenwood with bluetooth. I got mine at 6ave.com, but they had an amazing coupon that gave $498 off the price, making it cheaper than the 7120. But they have not had that deal since.

PS: I have no affiliation with any vendor etc (I'm in I.T. for a construction co), but I love my 8120, and so does my wife. She hated my portable one, but this is so easy to use she can add Points of interest as I am driving.

Authorized online dealers are: Crutchfield.com, Bestbuy.com, 6ave.com, al-eds.com, cartoys.com.

Or you can check for traditional dealers at the site below:
