I was cleaning my TRD CAI and noticed that my body was ripping. I have a Warn Bumper and the OME heavy lift. The vehicle is mainly used as a trail rig and has never been jumped.
I know this has happened to others on this forum and would like to know what Toyota has done or said. It appears to me that this is a weak spot or there is to much flex allowed. Please any info would be helpful before I take it in to Toyota.
To date Toyota has replaced a handful of the damaged aprons with a newer style of apron that was released in 01-07. All cost of repair was warrantied by Toyota. We have also seen these newer style of aprons fail.
As far as we know Toyota is willing to replace the inner aprons of any vehicle that is showing the signs of this problem. As long as there is no visible sign of owner abuse. They, we believe, are also working on a permanent fix for this problem. Hopefully a solution will be coming soon. Many forum members are holding off on any repairs and hope that Toyota will come up with a fix.
There has been a lot of speculation and discussion about what the cause of this really is. In the original post we were informed that the Toyota Prado also has these rips in the same area as the FJ Cruiser. Which it quite interesting since both vehicles share the same frame. This is why some have speculated that the frame may have to much flex.
This problem was not caused by any mods that I have done to my vehicle. My driving habits are not to be blamed either. This is happening to all types of FJ Cruiser configurations. From completely stock to highly modified.
This is the link to a poll that CruiserLarry started:

I hope that everyone who owns a Toyota FJ Cruiser, or knows someone that does, read these posts and pass on the information to fellow FJ owners.
