OK, I picked up My Side Visor set for my Wife's
FJ from Sparks Toyota for her B-Day Friday...
She was so excited, since her drive to work each
day in from north to south as the sun rises up on
the east, and flickers Through the trees to simulate
the feel of having a seizure...
Anyway... I took some pictures so there would be
a little more detail on the install, and the removal
of the plugs from the OEM handles...
First, I feel the only reason the two tabs are on
the new visors, due to their downward angle, are
for the ease of install at the factory/dealer, so
that you don't have to hold it in position along
with the handle and at the same time trying to
start the screw back in... It is actually simple a
simple task...
So I removed the two tabs by using a pair of
pliers and twisting them off, they came off quite
easily, then I took a razor blade and cleaned it of
any imperfections...

Here is what it looked like once the tabs were removed...

Next, it was time to install them, so I took a thin
butter knife, this one was a thin child's knife... I
gently worked it under the edge... The plugs are
a little loose and will shift aside a little to make
room once you get it under the lip...

Once I was under the lip a little, it lifted the plug
up as pushed the knife inward... A small screwdriver
would work very well here, but as I could not find
any pictures of these plugs prior to the installation,
I took a guess... Now, see where the tip of the knife
is, well, it is prying the clip part of the plug so that
it releases from the handle...

Here are some picts of the plug, so you can see
how they are held in, also notice the v-groove at
the base of the plug, which allows the clip parts
to release

Here is what the headliner looks like with the grab
handle removed, notice that there are no holes for
the previously removed tabs...

If you do decide to use the tabs, you will need to
align the visor mount with the screw holes in the
headliner, then press it against the headlines to
mark their position so you can poke hole in the
headline for them... (the information below came
from Speedy)...
Below, You see the marks made by pressing the
visor mount against the headliner...
Now you can use a small screwdriver to poke a hole
GENTLY thru the headliner at the top edge of were
the marks were made to the headliner... Here below
you can see the hole that were made...
Now, this brings us to the install, Simple really,
depending on which way you decided to go
with (clips or no clips)...
If went the clip way, the first hand the visor by
inserting the clip portion thru the holes you made
in the headliner, then place the grab handle onto
the visor mount with one screw in the handle and
press it into place and starting the screw a few
turns, now insert the second screw and also start
it, make sure it all looks aligned, and then tighten
it in place...
If you went the clipless way, place the handle onto
the visor mount and insert one screw, then put it
up to the headliner and start the screw a few turns,
and then insert the second screw doing the same,
make sure it's aligned, then tighten in place...
Here you can see it mounted... (pointed end should
be towards the rear with the hinge above the grab
handle, if you have both sides to do and get the left
and right mixed up)...

Now just pop the plugs back in and your are done...
And for information sake on how they form to the
headliner when in the upright position, You can see
from the side view below, the visor has a curve
to it which matches the headliner curve nicely...

Well, I hope this helps those who are a little unsure
of doing this little addition, it WORKS GREAT !...
