Here is a couple pointers for ya! You can go on van tours that hit a couple different places at once, places so in the jungle you would never find them yourself! I took a tour that took you to a snorkel down a freshwater river to the ocean ( very cool to see freshwater and saltwater fixing together), then they took us to snorkel in a cenote (underground water system, don't leave w/o seeing one of those,CRAZY) then we went to a cenote that had caved in and went swimming. My cousin and I also took a trip to Discovery something on Isla Mujares. Lots of stuff to do there, my favorite part, the turtle hatchery and feeding an aquarium full of big sharks (a big arcylic cage in the ocean, you can swim around) and lots of dolphins!! The Mayan ruins of Tulum were really cool!! There are a couple really cool bars in the town of Playa Del Carmen, Pirate Bar for a good kickin back on the beach( firedancers at night) and the Blue Parrott is right next to that if your into partying it up! And I got to tell ya, the food at The Hideaway is really good, so, take lots of loose fitting clothes! I really think you will very happy with your hotel choice! Report back when you get back, I'd like to see if you enjoyed it as much as I did! I am thinking about returning in May! Have a great time!
Thanks I greatly appreciate the advice.

Re: Off to Cancun!!!!

Lotsa Cancun info here:
Vacationing Here - Message Index

Been there five times now, (and Cozumel twice) have stayed at the Ritz Carlton (Freaking NICE!) and three other places over the years. (forget which places, but nothing special)....

Bought a timeshare last time I was in Cancun, right in the heart of the Hotel area (couple doors down from the Rainforest cafe)...<slaps self for not going back since>....

I much prefer Playa del Carmen and Cozumel, cause I am a scuba diver....the waters there are FAR superior to the Cancun waters (for scuba that is)..

Read up on that board, they give you TONS of 411 on local stuff. I love taking the buses around, you can get to the 'downtown' part of Cancun for cheap, and be sure to check out Mercada21, for the cheapest touristy stuff you can find anywhere....its a huge outdoor flea market basically.

Of course, check out the Maya ruins....and isla mujeres is cool too.

Its nice to speak spanish....the locals dont realize I am nearly fluent in spanish, and when a white ass punk like me starts asking serious questions to them they have quite a look on thier faces.....I often find myself translating for random people, and of course; I mention in Spanish that the other person is a fawking idiot....

enjoy your trip, give the locals my angry salute....that should go over well for you.

Re: Off to Cancun!!!!

Hehe, will do Thanks. Great info. I havent taken the time to take a vacation in a few years so now, so definitely looking forward to some windsurfing, sailing, snorkelling and maybe a bit of scuba. The Mayan Ruins are definitely on the list.
