This Big Brake Kit gives your FJ Cruiser that Supercar look and feel, and exceeds stock performance in two areas. First, larger rotors increase heat capacity. Second, stiff calipers and stainless steel lines reduce system compliance without upsetting the stock front to rear brake torqe ratios.
Introductory price: $1799.95
Please remember, you must call and speak to me to get it at this introductory price!
I think this is a pic for the Tundra big brake kit; the brake rotor carrier has the five-hole bolt pattern. I'm guessing the caliper and rotor are the same with the different rotor carrier for the FJC.
Yeah, lol, leave me out of the 5 lug reversion. =)
But seriously, I'm curious who's kit this is. If it's a Brembo GT (F50) caliper, with forged brackets, forged aluminum hat and floating rotors, it'd be sweet.
That kinda looks like a Stillen 'Brake Pros' kit, which aren't bad, and would explain the pricing on account of the less expensive steel hat & solid rotor. I believe they use Brembo calipers, if not StopTech, I forget.
My FJ is almost 2 weeks old. Soon it will have a lift and 35" tires. I'd like to improve the brakes to handle those 35's. I'm wondering how it will affect my lift and wheel options. I see above that you state the TRD 16's will fit. That's suprising, since the stock "bigger" brakes on the 4Runner require the 17" wheels.
Anyway, do you think the big brakes will be compatible with aftermarket 16x8 wheels to allow for 315/75-16's? Also, any idea on how this might affect lift options. You state the mount in a different location -- would that be a problem with aftermarket coilovers or, for example, the Rough Country 6" lift with the new spindles?

Thanks for any info you can provide!
The specs I posted are directly from TRD themselves. I really cannot confirm nor deny that these will be compatible with different aftermarket wheels and suspension kits.

OK -- I understand -- thanks! Hopefully somewhere along the line someone will be able to answer these questions.
The TRD FJ Cruiser Big Brake Kit will work with either the factory 17" wheels or the TRD 16" wheels. The rotor diameter is 323mm (or 12.7" for those of you who can't do the math), with larger than factory caliper pistons and brake pads. The mounting position of the caliper is different from the factory position but the kit comes with an adapter to mount the new caliper.
What?!? The rotors are only 12.7 inches? Why do they call it a big brake kit if the rotors are only 0.1" bigger than the oem front rotors? I know they said the caliper pistons & brake pads are bigger but common TRD...gimme a bigger rotor than the oem's 12.6" rotors especially if I'm paying $1800+ for it.
Anymore pics of the kit on & off the FJ? Thx!

Has anyone else noticed the factory FJ brakes seem to have a little 'hopping action', and not the good kind of anti-lock. Almost as if there is air in the brakes once and a while and that the petal sometimes has to be re-pushed down farther if you are waiting in traffic behind another car. I got into a traffic accident this way with my first fj, when I started to brake normal, it did the hop.. My new FJ has the same small hop. I asked a technician and he claims that it's the #1 complaint at his shop, but there's not much you can do about it short of getting bigger brakes. He says they skimped on them.
