This stinks, but my weekends have been realligned by the Navy and my wife's work schedule. If I want to see my wife (who lives in Jacksonville) again before May 16th I need to forego this trip. Sorry lads. I really wanted to get out there into Ocala, too.
I'm putting together another big run over at Eglin Reservation for the end of May. Maybe we can see you there.Again, sorry to be missing this, guys.
Re: May 2,3 & 4 - Ocala NF mapping and exploration run
Hello I'm one of the new guys to the forum. I have spent a lot of time in the ONF over the years with different 4x4 clubs. The last time I was up there a couple weeks ago Buck Lake was still closed. There are several day only places to set up but no over night stuff. Buck Lake was always my favorite. They have really clamped down on where you can run and will issue tickets when you wonder off the numbered roads. I'll be up there tomorrow and see what the deal is on Buck lake and Doe lake camp grounds.

Hey, the more people we get the better! Especially since you have been wheelin around ONF before. I really have no plans to leave the numbered roads at all, mainly just want to document the trails that are scheduled to be re-identified as 4x4 after they close the rest during Phase 2 of the ONF plans. Also, perhaps we can come up with some suggestions for the off-trail obstacles to be defined.
Currently I think we're looking at overnighting at Juniper Springs since it is centrally located, isn't that campsite open?

Re: May 2,3 & 4 - Ocala NF mapping and exploration run
The Florida jeep spring meet is in the ONF this weekend. I always try to make that run. They normally camp at Ocala Forest camp grounds which is about 5 or 6 miles west of 19 on 42. I have never camped there but the jeepers fill that place up when they are in town. They have full hookups for campers and I believe a swimming pool. Some may be interested to know they sell maps of the forest roads at the ranger station on 19 north of Altoona. Mine finally bit the dust but it list all of the roads some of which are blocked, shows the lakes campgrounds and other points of interest. There are still some challenging trails and some of the clay roads hold some nice mud holes days after it rains. I'll provide some trails for you to checkout during your exploration trip. You may want to check out Bass Lake and Alexander springs for places to camp in the future. I'm not aware of what the phase 2 plan does have to check that out.

Are you going to be wheeling Sunday also?
Do you have some Meet Times and Place for non-campers for Saturday and Sunday?

Yes I too may be interested in meeting up if this option is available. I may have my kid with me since my wife has NAVY drill that weekend and my son has never camped before. I just don't want to make this his trial camping trip just in case he doesn't dig it.
