Re: May 2,3 & 4 - Ocala NF mapping and exploration run
Don't know if I am going to be able to make this one guys. Jen is getting some hospital work done Thursday and I need to leave the weekend open for just-in-cases. But I will post up when I know more.

Hey guys.... You got room for an old school FJ40??? I promise no carb trouble. Went out Saturday and had no problems.
Cliff
Love to see you along Cliff! If I had the money I'd have an older FJ-40 myself, but have to combine my weekend toy with my dailydriver, so the FJC fits that bill perfectly. What day are you thinking of arriving?

Probably Saturday. Maybe Friday. Will know more later in the week. I have been out with some of the Tampa guys twice before and had a great time. Nvever been to ONF.. What kind of terrain are we talking about?
Re: May 2,3 & 4 - Ocala NF mapping and exploration run
OK Happy Campers, here is my suggestion for the first day of this weekend. These are only suggestions and if you want to do something different, then speak up or don't gripe at me after the fact! This is my first attempt to organize such a run, so excuse the newbie errors.
Friday afternoon I'll head to Juniper Springs to try and grab us a good campsite. Apparently these are $17 sites and there are quite a few of them. Currently there are no "reservable" campsites left, but at 2PM the walk-in sites are available. I will try for campsite #73, which is viewable at the following location: Campsite Map - JUNIPER SPRINGS REC AREA (FL), Florida - Recreation.gov
I'll try to make a better map of the location, but I'll also be monitoring CB channel 4 for arrivals. It should be hard to miss the large yellow FJC though. If you will be camping at JS with me, then I'd suggest you get there as soon as you can, I have no idea how fast they will fill up.
I'd like to meet at the fire tower near the Hwy 40/NFR97/NFR597 intersection at 9AM for those that want to join on Saturday or Sunday morning. This will make a good meeting point for either morning because you can't miss it, a huge fire watchers tower right along Hwy 40 smack in the middle of ONF. We should be able to gather along the side of the road somewhere in that area.
On Saturday morning our mission will be to map the northern sections of the Phase 2 4X4 trails. We will head up Hwy 40 to trail #97, which is a rather large path following a buried gas line. I suggest we go all the way up NFR97 to the OHV trailhead near CR316 and work our way back down along 67, across on CR314, then down towards 86 and back over to 97.
(See the attached PDF for the full sized map from ONF Rangers) If you wish to join us midday Saturday, let me know and we can meet for lunch at 1 PM @ the Lake Eaton Rec Area, indicated by the number 8 on: http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/florida/recr...areas_06-1.pdf
Afternoon we'll continue to work down along the trails between 79 and 97.
By late afternoon we should be headed back to Juniper Springs to relax and swim in the springs if so inclined.

Jim, you might post up a TIME to meet at a certain LOCATION on each day.
That way people who are driving up can meet with up with the campers. Also be aware, some campgrounds only allow campers in the campground, which would make it hard to meet in the campground. I do not know if it is that way or not there.

Skorp, what time you driving out of the camp ground? I'm familiar with that location, everywhere else is remote. The campground and the spring access is available as long as you pay the entrance fee correct? P.M me with your cell# I will be there all day Sat.

I hope to arrive around 2 PM Friday afternoon. We should be headed out of the campsite Saturday and Sunday morning about 8:30 AM and meeting at the fire tower along Hwy 40, very close to NFR 97 & 597. The fire tower and intersection are both identified on the Google Map linked below.
From my experience the one time I have been out there, cell phones will be totally useless!! I had 0 signal from both Sprint and AT&T phones, so CB's may be our best bet. Look for me on Channel 4 - The Wily Coyote.
