Re: Thoughts on a Florida sub-forum?

Well one reason I made the TampaBay4x4.com forum was that I liked that we could have secret boards for rides and or places to ride. It even came in handy for someone's Secret Surprise Birthday ride.

A lot of the places I go I don't want put up on a open forum. It is not just because of other FJC's but that ATV riders, Jeep wheelers, Dirt Bike Riders and other 4x4 wheelers all search these open for the best places to wheel. I know this for a fact and I do it to other open forums also.

Once some of these places become posted on a open forum, hoards of people start riding and wheeling the heck out of them and then they get shut down. And once it's put up it will be there for years for others to find it.

Just wondering Jim, why you never joined my forum?

Got more to say but I have bee somewhere in 14 minutes... whoops...

I am not trying to say it's a bad idea.... but....

Be back later..

Re: Thoughts on a Florida sub-forum?

Paul, I guess that originally I had assumed that you were more concerned with Tampa Bay area activities only, based on the name of the forum. In retrospect I had already long since realized you are supporting and reporting on 4X4 activity all over the FL area and not just TB, so you are absolutely correct and I have joined TampaBay4x4 Forum as CoyoteJim.

This still does not answer the question of whether or not you regular FL posters would prefer to keep the FL conversations grouped in a sub-forum. The advantages to this would be being able to subscribe to the sub-forum as a whole instead of individual threads and new users in the FL area could see all the local activity being publically discussed in in one list. The downside would be more complexity within the forum hierarchy and more clicks to reach the FL area. I am not promoting either idea, I'm kind of on the fence, and wondered what others thought.

I think that would be great, it would be nice to meet the people that I harass on this forum with my stupid questions.

Re: Thoughts on a Florida sub-forum?

Jim, yeah it is hard to compete with this forum because of the new wheelers, and old wheelers coming on this forum all the time. My forum is not used very much except as a place that holds secret spot information, I have maps, tracks and Google Earth Files pointing out the places to hit in the Secret Spots. Things I could NEVER post up here. I was hoping that more people contributed to that endeavor but it seems they never did. And that is OK!

I also made my forum a place where members can post up rides and such without broadcasting it to everyone.

Large groups of wheelers are fun but I also like to go wheeling with just a few rigs at a time. And some of my spots need to be kept to a minimum number or rigs at a time...

So a sub-Forum on here might/would be nice, but if the club / non-club would have a name and everything, it seems to me, why keep it on this forum where the control of the aspects of club/nonclub forum is still in the hands of this Blue Forum..

Know what I mean?

But I don't want to spoil it for others so I don't want anyone to take my comments as negative comments. I think everyone who knows me knows my main point is keeping places secret, other than that, I am pretty easy going (at least I think so,) and anything else is fine with me.

I'd be happy to help with any graphic designing once a name is chosen.

Re: Thoughts on a Florida sub-forum?

as far as rides to secret spots go, lets keep those on paul's website for the trusted members! he has a valid point about the other off road enthusiasts searching out riding/wheelin spots. I have seen way too many spots shut down because one person tells one person and it snowballs out of control.
"Loose lips sink ships!"

a sub forum forum would be nice to have on the southeast region for threads that are about local build days, get togethers, rides to known spots...etc.
i like:
FLFJC (Florida FJ Cruisers)
Sunshine State FJC

would it look like this thumbnail (Smokey Mountain Cruisers)? if so, that would be sweeeeet!

Re: Thoughts on a Florida sub-forum?

I have sent LandCruiserSteve a PM asking about this idea.

Below is my perception of what we have decided, correct me if I'm mistaken:
1. We'll request a Florida sub-forum under the SE Region.
2. We'll ask that this be named simply "Florida"
3. We'll work on a FL specific club to be hosted on Paul's forum, TampaBay4X4
4. FJCSS - FJ Cruisers of the Sunshine State (my recommendation, still open to discussion)
5. We'll use the club as an excuse to wheel and drink on a regular basis

Re: Thoughts on a Florida sub-forum?

There is already a Florida club... FLCA. Why do we need more than one club?
