Well, last night was an adventure. Dad,bro Doug an I went to Hooters for a bite and a couple beers. On the way home the idea pops up to run out to the point, relax under the full moon sip a cold one and come home. The road out to the point has changed, BIG TIME!!! Just after the two leaning pines, the wooptie mud puddle section is VERY nasty. Deep mud, rutted out bad from someone getting stuck, I finally stuck the FJ. My first time with it. Anyway nothing in front to winch off, pulled the trees out of the wet sandy soil. Tried to jack and push off No help, last ditch call to run winch line under to the only tree in sight, cut the winch line! : ( Lucky I had cell service, just barely, got a hold of my Good Buddy Duster, at midnight and "The Goat" came to my rescue. Much thanks Bro, I owe you BIG time.

whoa, nasty.
Are you running synthetic winch line???
"And old trick i have seen before (although nasty) is this:
If all else fails, and you have a winch but nothing to anchor to, you can dig a “dead man” to create an anchor point. This requires digging a very large hole – like a grave – and dropping in an anchor of some kind, usually a full-sized spare tire and wheel combo. Secure your winch cable to the spare tire, drop it in and then fill the hole in again. (But be sure to drive around the covered hole you just dug up once you are moving again, or you may find yourself stuck even worse than before!)"

Yep Syn line. I know about the deadman trick, however I didn't have a shovel. This road I have wheeled, alone, many times. I was totally dumbfounded when I hit that puddle and high centered. My skids might have played a part in it, lack of momemtum, familure road had my guard down, ect... Cards not in my favor. Oh well, learn and laugh.

Yeah does make for a good story though.... Bird's neighbor.."you want me to go and wake this redneck up... uh he has guns right? I'm not gonna get shoot am I? does he know I'm coming?".. Bird.. "uh bro.. if he knew ya were coming to wake him up then I wouldn't need ya to go and wake him up" neighbor finally knocks on door... a friend of mine opens it to him backing away from the door quickly... friend wakes me up.. Bird's neighbor hands me the phone... "Bro I'm stuck.. yeah it is a mess out here.. just go out past the leaning pines you'll find us"
now the real fun part.. well for me.. jump in the rig after grabbing a few items.. run like a bat outta hell since it is now 1:00 am and I notice that the calls to my phone that I didn't hear started at 11:20 pm.. DOH.. they have been out there awhile... so down the road I go.. weeeee doggie.... since I know that Bird just went through all the puddles I wasn't worried about running into any billy bob lost parts in them.... and let me tell ya hitting wet puddles at 30 mph in the dark is a totally different experience.. mud on windshield = instant darkness. got there and a couple of tugs later.. and we were loaded up and ready to head back to town... that was a fun run back as well.
But Brahda Bird anytime man.. I know it sucked for you to have to hang out that long w8n on recovery and the blood suckers that were in swarms. but you know anytime day or night ya need it ya got it.
oh and btw.. ya missed a spot on Yo

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways at the last possible moment .... "Old Forester" in one hand, red meat in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming: "WOO HOO!! What a Ride."
Sounds to me like a run out the beach will be a MUST on the next big Eglin run! Time to tame that savage beast. Glad everything worked out for ya, Martin. Did your pops have a good time at least?

Yep, Dad had fun, however I seriously doubt if Brother Doug will EVER go offroad with me again!!!
You won't believe the road when you see it, it's as if someone has been out there with a skidder or some type of track vehicle. Many of the big holes have been "Let's go around that one" tracked, so that even the edges are deep.
Doug was up to his knees in muck, being attacked by skeeterz, trying to jack the front and push it over, when something goes CRASH CRASH CRASH into the woods close to the truck. His eyes got big for a second, then back to work.
Also on the run out, we had crashed into at least 25-30 monster spider webs that span the whole trail, (you know the ones) spiders all over the truck. Doug had to muster the NUTZ & BOLT's to stick his hand into the hole to free spool the winch. Big laugh from that one.
