I'm open to modifying the ranking system to include other critera such as time in service as well. If you want to draw out a ranking system that you think would be better, I'm all ears...
From what I've seen...
Minutes online
Number of posts
Message views
Reg date
All those make for a rather foolproof ranking system, since spammers hit the minute or reg date limit, and lurkers hit the posts and message views limiter.

We cant do minutes online or message views, but we can do number of posts and registration date.
Also, I would like to see a quick link to all the vendors on the main menu bar at the top of the page. I think buried at the bottom of the forum page is too hidden. Put it up near the Forum and Active Topics buttons, so we can easily access the supporting vendors.
Sweet maybe we can stop stupid posts like "last post wins" & "pics of my mother law in town with my FJ" or "name that movie"
Come on people the is ment to be a "FJ Cruiser fourm" I have diped in to off-topic threads but its gotten out of hand. When I goto active topics, and only 3 of them are informitive!!!!!
Speaking as the doofus who started one of those stupid threads, all I have to say is that the off topic area is a good place to just let off some steam and be stupid if you want to be. And now that those posts don't count towards anything, I don't see the harm.

Ran into an issue today... I've just registered and was trying to post image links to an external server and I would get an error message saying I had to have at least 5 posts...
Only problem was that at the time I had 8... I chatted with MissFJ online (nice feature BTW) and she has encouraged me to try after 15. Could a MOD please verify the configuration and update the error message if need be?

I agree, its fun to post some offtopic threads and join them, BUT , its to a point where offtopic threads are starting to out weight, all other threads.
There has to be a saturation point where, maybe a limited number of new offtopic threads can be started. It kinda pisses me off when I ask a question pertaining to my FJ and it gets knocked off active topics in 5 min by offtopic threads.

While I try to figure out the ranking system we've talked about, I decided to turn on a user reputation system. Basicly, if you feel a user is valued click on the scales image below their post count and give them positive reputation. If you feel someone is detracting from the forum, you can give them negative reputation. Try it out... it'll take time before a user builds up enough reputation to make a difference, but as time goes on you'll see their hard work pay off.
How about filtering specific forums or defining a smaller set of forums to check for Active Topics or New Posts for? If off topic posts (or others) could be excluded the *active* horizon of other key posts would increase. You could add an All Active Topics button to provide the function we have today.
