Animated Avatars: How [I]do[/I] you do it?

I can't figure it out yet. I tried using a plain 'ol gif, but it doesn't seem to be moving. Any pointers?

like he said, you can have a non animated image be a .gif file. you need your .gif file to be animated.

Why when i try to upload a animated image for my avatar, i get a notice saying "you may not upload animated images" ?

OK, I am a supporting member and have an animated gif that I would like to use as my avatar...look at my sig. When I put the link to the animated gif and save, it only shows one view and won't animate. Any suggestions?
