transporting kayak

I just got my FJ!!! I want to know if anyone out there has any suggestions on how to put a kayak on the roof with the factory roof rack. without a bar in the front, it seems kind of akward.

Re: transporting kayak

The thread provided has some ideas and I posted a link to my picture gallery where I used Yakima parts to get my 4 kayaks or 4 bikes on top. If you look at my pics, you will see how I set it up with Yak parts. Here is one of the pics with 4 kayaks on tops. Understand that they are not fully secured with front/rear tie downs in the pics.

Re: transporting kayak

I used a Yakima cross bar on the front and Yakima "Low Rider" towers and saddles for two kayaks. Works great. Very secure even on long days of rough driving.

slide the front bar on the factory rack to the front

Unless you have a very heavy kayak or canoe, you will be fine. That is how I carry mine when I don't want to use my Dodge truck or tow my canoe trailer.
