This one's tough - I love my 4Runner and not yet sure I want to go with the FJC. I typically sleep in the back of the Runner when camping, but I don't think I can do it in the FJC. The wheel base and length specs on the two are almost identical, but it looks like the FJC length includes the spare tire.
Here's a side by side pic comparison
Here they are overlapped:
Unless the front seats pushed forward provides extra room, it's not looking good as an offroad overnight shelter.

Jeez---another "can I sleep in it?" post. If you search you will see lots of posts about this.
The short answer: NO.
Keep your 4runner, and breath that car air all nite. The only time I would ever sleep in my car is if I was afraid to pitch a little tent. Sleeping in cars is disgusting. Making love in cars is interesting.

The 4runner is just a better vehicle. The FJ is cool and all, but it really has very little purpose for those of us in the real world. Sure if your in your early 20's and are single, and live in the outback fine. But this new FJ is not a replacement for the old FJ. The old FJ was made for getting around on poor roads or no roads for those that lived in areas of rough terrain. You will not see the new FJ being sold around the world as a expedition vehicle as the old FJ was. The FJ will be fun and it is very cool looking, on the exterior that is, but it is not useful for most of us.
When my dealer finally calls me to tell me the vehicle that my deposit has been waiting for, has arrived, I'm going to head down there and take a test drive. Streets, freeway, dirt road if he'll let me which he probably won't. I'll insist that the chrome pontoons be removed before I'll even consider buying it. We'll agree on a price. Then I'll let them know, I want to sleep on it.
In the vehicle.
Yep, I want to spend the night here, sleeping in the back of truck. If I get a good night's sleep, I will give you this check first thing in the morning. This is not negociable.

Could you sleep in the old fj40?
