Re: Holy Beautiful FJ40!
Here's a good story. When I was shopping around at dealers a few months back I stopped in Toyota of El Cajon to get info on how they plan to take orders for the FJ. Of course they didn't have a clue, but that's another story. Anyway, the salesman said one of the managers just got a '73 (I think) FJ40, all original from a lady in the midwest and said it was behind the shop if I wanted to see it. So of course I said sure and we walked over to take a look-see. Upon removing the cover I was stunned and amazed to see a freaking brand new glistening perfect mint condition 73 FJ40! It was like I went back in time and could see exactly how everything looked when it rolled off the lot. The thing even had the original protective plastic cover on the sun shades and the exhaust was spotless stainless steel. Competely amazing and I was drooling.
Apparently the old lady's husband bought it new at Rose Toyota in San Diego (first Toyota dealer in US), drove it home and around town for a couple weeks (only putting about 3K miles on it), parked it in the barn, then died. It was not moved for over 30 years, just sat under a cover. So the lucky bastard (salesman) found it for sale on the internet and bought it for a steal. The poor lady didn't know how much it was worth. The fact is, those deals are around, but not for long. And yes, I know this post is worthless without pics (sorry Air).
