options question

Hey all,

This is my first post, and i can't seem to find the answer when searching, so maybe someone can help me out. If you custom ordered an FJ from the dealer, but did not want all the items in a certain option package, would it be possible to get individual items without ordering the entire package? For example, in the convenience package, i really just don't want anything like the rear sonar, or power mirrors, etc., but I think that the privacy glass would be nice to have. Would this be possible?? Thanks!

Barrett

Re: options question

you can try, but it's very unlikely.
there is been a lot of talk about factory and port installed options, search for it...

Re: options question

Short answer is no. You probably don't want to hear my long answer because it would get pretty negative pretty quick. Personally I'm ok with the upgrade packages, except for not being able to replace the alloys that come with the UP packages with the optional TRD alloys. The real kicker for me is whether they will replace things I absolutely detest like...all together now...RUNNING BOARDS....with the rock rails, or just delete the running boards so I don't have to pay for them.
Bottom line - We've heard nothing to lead us to believe that you will be able to delete individual items from the convenience or upgrade packages.

well, for one, toyota wont let you "Custom order" one. you have to preference what you want, and then your dealer gets to try and find one, either that they are getting ( i do think they can request certain things, but im unsure how well this works) or they do a deal with another store to get the one you want.

they dont add individual options like that because they come in a package, installed from the factory. for them to add privacy glass, to use your example, they have to take the time out to put a special order into the production line, tell the people running it what not to put in, what to put in, etc. making the assembly line run slower. as its all about the $$$, they dont want to do that as they cant pump out as much product as they could if the installed the package thats already setup to go in.

with reagards to the privacy glass, shop around for a reputable shop that does tinting, use one that provides a good long warranty. cheaper and less hassle than trying to get toyota to build one special just for you.

Re: options question

i agree it would be cool to just go down a menu and pick what we like and don't like, as with the port installed options. but, then again, we're all spoiled beyond belief.

we should be spoiled; if the rest of the world is going to hate us for being evil self indulgent capitalists we may as well get something cool out of the deal...

Re: options question

I really didn't need $700 cupholders, but they lift and seperate.

My only dissent, which won't cause me grief, is why can't we have a list of attachables and non-detacheables, which would allow a crude "must have" list. Don't need the attachable running boards, but I need the non-detachable difflock, etc... Need non-detachable tint, but don't need attachable running lights on mirrors... Might be symantics, but logically, the options list is dictated by how easily removed an option is.

I'll keep waving the idealistic flag, until I get tired again.

Re: options question

I don't think that any place allows you to remove items from packages that you don't want. In fact, in some cases, you can pay twice for the same thing and only get one. For example, you get the 17" alloys and tires in the UP or UR package. If you choose the WB accessory which is the 16" TRD alloys and BFG AT's (at $1,899 - yikes !) you end up paying twice and getting only the BFG's. Hey - if I'm gonna pay for it, I should get 2 sets of wheels/tires, right ? My thought is if it is available aftermarket, get it there. I have to have the BFG's, and they are $166 each at tire rack, so save a grand.
