A stupid HP question

last night while watching the office a Rav 4 comercial came on staing it hand a 3.5 L V6 engine making 269 hp, why then is the FJ's 4.0-lter 24-valve VVT-I engine only producing 239 hp? Does this mean they holding something back?

RAV4 269 hp @ 6200 rpm/246 lb.-ft. @ 4700 rpm
FJ 239 hp @ 5200 rpm/278 lb.-ft. @ 3700 rpm

GOOD POINT
Torquey little guy aint he?

Re: A stupid HP question

Ah yes....little more, little lower end torque. Now if they really want the low end torque, make an inline 6, or better yet, a diesel inline 6.

Whatever happend to the inline anyhoo? I say they pull out that inline that was in the old Supra in put it in the FJ. Just by nature of it's design it has more low-end torque. Smooth? Oh yeah! I loved the inline in my '84' CJ-7 Even had it decked out, courtesy of Cifford Performance: 6=8 baby!

I think the only one left that I can think of that uses an inline in their cars/trucks is BMW in the 3/5 series. Anyone know of any others? And no, I'm not talking about the Cummins Diesel in the Dodge pickups.

Re: A stupid HP question

Jeep is going to V-6 for 07. Sad as the 4.0 L in line 6 is a great engine.

Are they going to even offer the inline ? That would be a shame if they don't that has always been a solid engine great off road ..Yet another solid reason to get into th FJC having driven the newer Taco's the FJC's power should be good..Not expecting a drag racer but expect allot more go than the H3 turdal mobile I checked out a while ago...GM doesn't seem to get it.. that was to say the least disappointing.....

Re: A stupid HP question

Personally I am going to be happy with the present engine until Toyota brings out a decent hybrid then I will consider putting that in the FJ

Re: A stupid HP question

IIRC, it's getting harder to make the inline-6 meet the ever tougher emmission standards. That was one of the reasons given for Jeep switching to the v6.
