Running a Small UHaul Trailer for 24 hours - What Can I Expect?

So I bought that tropical top for my Rover..now I need to go to Michigan (ugh!) lol. Anyway...it'll make more sense for me to rent from UHaul from the same location (it's 9.99 a day for same location, and 270 dollars from one location back to Boston). So...driving an empty Uhaul...how will that be? Gas mileage be bad? Just a little 4x8 trailer 780 lbs empty

It shouldn't be any different than driving around with those fat chicks you like to hang out with. j/k

IMO get a freightquote or find an empty eastbounder.
Who knows what knid of weather you'll hit and by the time you add up gas and expenses- not to mention your time you'll be better off having it shipped or having an agent pick up for you.

oh nice! how do I do that? sorry I don't do much of this stuff. I bought an item that was "local pickup only," but the guy seems cool and is willing to work with me...

You can put an ad in locally in Mi or try the CB or if you know a trucker, shipper, or fat chick that uses the CB alot (nothing against ... just saw above you seem to have the connection- so thought Id throw that out there . Im sure there are plenty of empty trucks coming in from Mi to get Baked beans or lobster

There is freight quote.com- and other pack and shippers- Im sure any will beat the cost of doing yourself- remember milage and wear on vehicle too...

well....it's a Toyota and I only have 7K miles so I kinda thought it'd be fun. Plus my old college roommate lives in Rochester NY and owns a restaurant so I'd have a perfect place to stop off. Plus...hey Niagra Falls and Canada! lol. seriously though I will check this out. thank you very much!

Yeah that is the way to go the only thing to think about is that once they ship it your way make sure you got a buddy with a pickup truck because this is not like using UPS or FedEx you have to go pick it up at docking station at the exact time they specify.

Re: Running a Small UHaul Trailer for 24 hours - What Can I Expect?

how many miles you gotta go. That top looks kinda rare, and I would be pissed if some freight truck or company damaged it during shipping. Granted you can buy insurance but do you want your five hundred bucks back or a top that is in one piece and on your truck safe and sound? I would go pick it up, I used to work at a loading dock where these trucks are loaded and unloaded. the pallet jacks, forklifts and under paid dock hands beat the hell out of anything because " its on a pallet - you can't hurt it" . just my 1.5 cents.

would it be safe for such a delicate/rare item? Keep in mind this is glass and aluminum (40 years old)

that is what I am getting at. That top is old and hard to find. even if it an "accident" you will still be out a tropical top that goes on a 1967 land rover. I don't think pep boys keeps those in stock.
