Hello all, I'm new here ( have been lurking for a little bit) for one i would like to applaude yo uall on your rig's well done! I have enjoyed watching and looking at pictures and videos. I am about a year away from purchasing a new vehicle, i have 2 in mind, and am having a tough decision on which to get. I LOVE the FJ, and am so-so about the new Jeep 4-door Rubi. Both are VERY capable vehicles, so now i am nit-picking. I have driven the FJ, but not the Jeep JK. I am also very weary about the new Jeep motor. Any insight, or ideas to either of these vehicles? like having solid axles vs. IFS? which is better and why? The toyo has really got me sold, but that Jeep just keeps knocking on the door ( in my head) but the motor kills it for me. Right now i am driving a Colorado x-cab.

Well you can't go wrong with a solid axle up front if one day you are going to make this a rock crawling rig, until then, if it is just your daily driver, well it might be a little hard on the back, and i think that is why toyota decided to go with the IFS up front. They had to appeal to a lot of people with this retro vehical and keeping the IFS up front insured a nice ride. I actually like the IFS because i do use this FJ as my DD and I don't plan on true Rock Crawling it just yet, now in 6-7 years, maybe when I SAS it. With that being said you have to think what do you want your ride to be like?
I think the rubi is underpowered for the 4-door. I like the throttle response of the FJ. I like the comfort of the FJ over a Jeep. But again just my opinion. Go out and drive the jeep 4dr and figure out what you do and don't like about it. I think once you drive it and then drive an FJ, well you will probably get on the ball with an FJ.
One more thing if you are looking for rugged looks right out of the bag the Rubicon probably wins, but with about a grand the FJ can look downright mean. Take a look at Lucille in my signature to see the before and after shots and you will know what i am talking about.
Most of all Good Luck my friend and thanks for asking for our opinions.
Wow that really looks good!! but i wanna know how you go that picture of my wife in there.
I also don't think i will use it for rock crawling,, i would build something for that purpose, I am an avid outdoorsmen, i love what the FJ has to offer. Now i just need a time machine. Yours looks really good with the lift, how high did you lift it?

Just 3", but honestly putting a half in spacer in the front to take out the rake of the FJ makes ALL the difference in the world. Really changes the whole apprearence of the truck. Next up Demello Bumper, but fundulation needs to come through for that so it will probably be two months around old st nick time before i get that bad boy.
I drove a 07 4 door x wrangler. You can make a real nice rockcrawler out of it, but confortwise it's no match too FJC. Its like raw, halfway made truck inside. All cheap plastic and "cold" metal doors. Most uncomfortable things are the rear seats. They say you can take you whole family off road now. Don't belive it. They so upright and and narrow so not realy designed for long rides, and 5 people will fit in like sardines in a can, not to mention bumpin; they head to the bar speakers /they right above your forhead/ every time you brake or go over little bump. I had to choose between this too, ended up ordering FJ.
