I took the FJ up in the woods today in the POURING MONSOON we had today (fun!!). Climbed a hill to a blueberry patch. On the way back down, every rock, root and leaf the rear end of my truck hit made me slip sideway....scared me because it was a really narrow path and if I slipped sideways at the wrong time, it would have been straight into a tree. Was this just because I was not aired down?

the answer to your question is partially yes. You will slip a hair more with fully aired tires than aired down tires, but I think you would have slipped anyway. Slippery roots are just slippery.
Sorta hard to get enough bite on wet slippery hard surface rock. It's almost like glass. There are enough slippage control systems available on the FJ that they might have been working and fooling you. Airing down and tread with a bigger bite would help, but looking at it, your onboard slippage control systems should have been in control enough to save you.

At least you came out of it without damage. Sounds like it was just a slick situation. New shoes might be a good idea if this is a regular type of terrain for you.
New Tires are the answer!!!! Those stockies do okay ive seen them perform pretty good for stock on fellow fj's at paragon and at GWNF.But if it gets really slippery like snow, ice, and mud . you will do much better with new shoes!!! Many good ones out there REVOs MTZ's MTR;s.
Go with revos youll keep you nice quiet ride go with the others a bit more noisy!
