Here comes the 'STUPID TAX' on the new Toyota FJ40 cruiser

You knew it had to happen.

Hot truck, minimal supply, greedy dealers and people with more money than brains.

Put those ingredients together and you have the perfect recipe for adding the infamous 'STUPID TAX' to the purchase of the vehicle.

We just surveyed about ten Toyota dealers in Southern California where the minimum markup on FJ's is a manadatory lojack and fabric sealant package ($1300).

Most dealers in CA. are marking them up between $3-5K.

Looks like if you want one you will have to pay the piper.
Although I have a FJ fever, my brain still has 60% performance.

I live in SoCal and haven't had any stupid tax applied...been working with four different dealers, incluiding two that are holding FJs for me...I guess stupid is as stupid does...if someone just accepts these rip-off schemes at face value, I suppose they are at the very least willing participants if not...er, stoopid.

I think both dealers I've been working with are in the group surveyed. Yes, time to suck it up and take Percy's advice.
