Well guys,
I was at the Columbus Auto show last night and the Fj was there in all its glory. Got close enough take measurements , climb all around it, even dry humped it when no one was looking...
Final thought.... Awesome Vehicle....
BUT, my wife is 8 months pregnant and I had to prove to her that the Fj could be a family vehicle. So, we actually brought a car seat and a doll-baby.
So I strapped the baby seat in the back. Took forever and was extremely akward.. The front seats can not go all the way back with a car seat in the back.
Next, reaching in and out of the vehicle to get the baby was a chore. I almost hit the doll-babies head on the roof a couple of times...I t
So in conclusion, it can be done, but this is not a Rig for infants...as most of you already know.
Now if you have children that are out of car seats, this vehicle definalety works. i saw lots of little kids climbing in and out of the rear with no problem..
I hate to say I'm bailing at this time because I still love this vehicle. I'll still be in touch to check out how much fun you guys are having...
"tear up those trails for me" And when you pull up next to an H3, just shake your head and laugh......
Good Luck and have fun with your rigs. Its only a matter of weeks...

Theres only 1 kind of Hummer I want ..... and you damn sure can't drive it....
If it helps, most cars and SUV's do not have enough room in the back for the frontseat to go all the way back with an infant carseat installed. Case in point, my wife drives the Volvo SUV (perfect for her and her business, but not for me) and there is adequate room in its backseat, but not really when you put the infant car seat in.
But i understand your concern, as this is what I am planning on checking out before I purchase. I have another one on the way as well, and my concern is more centered on getting two kids into their carseats while only having access from one side (stinking suburban track homes and their tiny garages).
It has been recommended to me to utilize the roofrack for them, but I doubt I will get my wife to buy off on that one.
You have to look at it in another light..Is this your first baby ? The carriers are a pain to strap into anything for the first couple of years. It gets easer as thay get older.Your on the right track by taking the Carrier with you, If whatever you get is going to be your only vech. It defiantly has to be Mom friendly or you will never hear the end of it.... ......Take your seat and doll and check out the four door Tacos betting that would fit you guys nicley.....Dude I don't believe you posted that you are running around town playing with dolls Good luck with whatever you end up with

Do you own a sedan?, it's even worse. By worse I mean after carrying the child for a couple of hours then having to bend down to put them in a car seat in a LOW sedan (even a 4 door) is painfull. At least the height of the FJ will be easier on your back. As someone eluded to, the infant/newborn car seats are huge, especially the Britax Marathon! it takes up about 1.3 seats! when they get older and you can use a booster seat (child > 40lbs) it gets easier.
good luck

p.s i currently own a 4 door sedan and I've hit my 2 yrs old head on the c pillars many a times! (wife doesn't know)
Have 3 kids, all 5 and under. The first 6 months, you'll want a click in base already strapped in to both your wife's and your cars. You buckle the little bugger in outside the car and then just click the carseat into the base. When they get to be a year, you upgrade for a front facing seat which is overall smaller than the carrier. It could work pretty easily.
