First oil change at deal and NO OIL put in.

Went to the lewisville Toyota dealer for a 5k mile service. Told them I wanted an oil change and would pay since the covered change is at 10k. To make a long story short they drained the oil replaced the filter and never put new oil in. I got in and immediately noticed the oil light was flickering on as I drove off. I pulled over and killed the engine. I got it documented and a signed paper from them saying they did this. Hope no damage was done. I'm also 99% sure they never rotated the tires either. The FJ runs fine and even running with no oil it ran fine.

Re: First oil change

Wow. First read I thought they put the old oil back in... but no oil?!

Re: First oil change

I just hope no damage was done. I talked to a couple mechanics and they said its probably ok since I didn't drive far. Maybe 200 feet. Engine ran less than a minute.

Re: First oil change

The manager also said this wasn't the first time they did this. They seemed to think it wasn't big deal since it ran such a short time. I was so pissed off my heart was racing like back when I was a kid about to get in a fist fight.

Re: First oil change

Wow, I thought I had a bad experience with an oil change:O
Never use the dealership again, I had to change dealers for service because of bad oil change experience too.

Re: First oil change

I would call Toyota and get them involved.

No way to know if the crank is still healthy.

A buddy did this at the track on his 750 and it ran fine after he added oil but as soon as he hit the track the the motor let go. The engine builder said crank damage due to no oil.

Re: First oil change

Do not use Toyota of Lewisville for any service. I had bad experience with them as well as problems on the install of equipment at the time I purchased the F J. I use Toyota of Dallas and they have been great. Been with them about a year now.

Re: First oil change

No matter that you were smart and killed the engine. You are now the proud owner of a new 2012/2013 FJ Cruiser. They will say nothing was damaged, and that any issues will occur during the warranty period. DO NOT accept this as a consolation. These engines will last 250,000 miles if properly maintained.

Demand a new vehicle. Elevate to the regional manager immediately to make clear that you will not go away quietly. If you do not have the fortitude to demand the above, then MINIMALLY get an extended Engine warranty to 100,000 miles with no time provision.

Listen to Rraiderr above ... you will never know if there was damage to the crank, rods or valve train. Even if not obvious, no question there was accelerated wear that will continue even with proper lubrication.

Re: First oil change

Would have to agree with ASE. No way I would drive away with a new $30k+ vehicle that they "oops, we forgot to put oil in" especially if you were told it wasn't the first time. No way in hell I would risk it.
