As you will notice by my confusion I have just joined this excellent FJ site. I will use it a lot in future. The reason that I found thecsite is a problem I had today with my 1985 FJ75utility, I think in the US they are pickups. I was moving my vehicle at my home in preperation for a trip of about 320 km (200 mls). I was turning slowly on full lock in 4wd and the truck locked up at the front. It was the f
drivers side hub which clunked and locked. I placed the vehicle back in 2wd (high) but itvwas still locking up when I tried to move the vehicle. I then checked and found the Fwheeling hubs were in so I turned them to off and the truck worked Ok. I took it for a run and it was perfectly normal. MY QUESTION I have to do the 200 ml trip tomorrow and I realise that the CV joint is possibly the problem as you can hand spin the drive shaft to the diff quite O K. If I leave the hubs free and use 2wd is that OK until I return home ? As I said it all drives OK in high 2 wd. I wuld really appreciate a reply. Hey Mate,

You might get more response on Pirate 4x4 with that vehicle. The main vehicle here is the FJ Cruiser and a few others (80's, tacos, etc).

Good luck with your search. If it makes you feel any better I went almost 250 miles on a bad CV. Got to love Toyota's for durability

Hi Old Cruiser, Thanks for your reply. I think that I have worked it out ? according to me if the free wheeling hubs are "out", and the truck is driven in 2 wd the Cv joints dont have ti rotate ?????? if so that is why everything works OK at the moment. Well I will make the trip andif I break down and get eaten by dingos you will hear no moe otherwise I will be back on this excellent forum. Cheers from Oz. Rodway

Hahaha! Dingos arent the only worry- its those fresh water crocs and red roos
