side mirror mods?

Has anyone actually done anything with the side mirrors? I'm not speaking of heated mirrors or directional signals or anything fancy - I mean are there "swing-away, larger, truck-like" aftermarket or home-fabbed mirror mods out there that I might consider buying or doing?

I'm towing now, and also backing in and out of tight spots off-road and in-town - and I'd like to try to cut into the blind spots a little. I've considered a switchable camera but want to know if there are "analog" options before I go that route.

(Yes, I've done a search.)

Thanks!

Re: side mirror mods?

The biggest thing I've seen people do for the blind spots with their mirrors is to add the little round stick on mirrors to them and readjust them out farther. I don't recall anyone swapping them for others. I think there was someone that used a set of the strap on extra mirrors for towing awhile back.

Re: side mirror mods?

This (link) seems to be the only viable option out there. I purchased one for the drivers side. It seems like it will work short term, however I wish someone would develop something a little more permanent. A swing out mirror of some type would be a great mod.

There was a guy on here somewhere who built his own towing mirrors. He was used the base of the FJ mirror and custom fabbed some chevy HD towing mirrors.

Dumbo ears on the FJ (aka Frankenmirrors)
Thanks. That was helpful.
