Car salesmen can be tools...

Here at Larry Miller get some service work done, I spy a new cement TT parked out front, so I head over to take a look.

This is the conversation we had...

Tool...Looking to buy/have any questions??
Me.....No.
Tool...you know the FJ is a great vehicle.
Me.....yeah I know, I already own one.
Tool...yeah, but is it a Trail Team?
Me.....nope, don't need all the bells and whistles.
Tool....but, it's a TT, it has rock rails, those can come in handy.
Me......yeah but, why pay for crap you don't want(pointing at the bug deflector).
Tool....a TT can go places where yours can't, it has crawl control.
Me.....I already know how to drive/crawl good enough, I don't need a computer taking over for me.
Tool....But the TT is rated to go off road, look at the skid plates.
Me......hahahahaha....lol....are you serious?? They are thin sheets of metal.
Tool....well this one is sold already, sorry.
Me......that's fine, I told you I wasn't looking to buy anything in the beginning.

Re: Car salesmen can be tools...

ahhahahahahahahahahaha, hahahahahahahahahahaha
yup, most of them are tools. most don`t even know the product...

I once trusted a salesman, and kept in touch for several years and we were a 3 peat customer, during the last purchase with them (Ford, not that this matters) they screwed me... last time I bought from that dealer, All`s Ford Motor company would do was give me a coupon for a discount on an oil service, hahahahaha...

dealers suck, and from what I saw recently most techs have an a$$hole attitude...

Re: Car salesmen can be tools...

Yeah, I myself am a car salesman. Sounds like that one didn't have much experience. Most good ones that aren't tools do not work for the franchised new car dealerships because the hours are ridiculous and the pay is awful to say the least. In stores like that, "salespeople" are really just greeters anyway. The guy selling you the car is in a glass office and will only make contact when you are about to walk. You can in fact sell cars without being such a tool. Just try to be as knowledgeable as you can about the product and talk to people like you would want to be talked to. The stigma that my profession has (and has for the most part earned) is why most customers have their a$$ on their shoulders by the time they arrive at the dealership.

Re: Car salesmen can be tools...

Dang Larry miller! I've never had a good experience with them!! My mom took her 2010 Bug there to trade it in for a 4 runner and they offered her 5k and when she asked for more the jerk told her no and told her he was doing her a favor for giving her 5k! She laughed and went to Tony Diveno!

Re: Car salesmen can be tools...

In fact I once used one as a sledgehammer to break up asphalt in their parking lot. Asphalt is a lot harder than a car salesman.

ya stealership employees can be fun when they think you're just a sheep...found a pretty cool parts guy @ Sandy Karl Malone tho when i needed AT fluid to do a flush...he and his buddies run rock buggies so he isn't just a stealership employee....

Exactly this. I, too, am a salesman. You are absolutely correct when saying the salespeople that work for the franchised/group dealers are jokes. They rotate in and out all the time and are there for a check. I work for a single store, family owned since 1929, and our average sales person has worked here for 13 years. I always try to sell cars. Obviously its my job, but if you want to think about it and walk, then do so. Its your decision and purchase. Most of my sales are when people come back. That might be hours, days, weeks or months later, but they come back because they appreciate me and the way they were treated.

Re: Car salesmen can be tools...

i'm a salesman too, sounds like that guy was indeed a tool. sorry you had a bad experience.

yeah, try to remember every option package on every model is impossible. product knowledge is important but come on. as soon as you have something good and memorized, it changes.
