FJ makes a great snowcatcher

The FJ makes a great snow catcher. I was amazed at how much snow collected on the hood, bumper, license plate and inlets on my drive home last night. I was going pretty slowly (average speed of 25 mph) and the snow ranged from dry pellets to wet flakes.

There were no surprises driving in the snow and the car handled just fine all along the commute (flat to steep hills). This morning I found that my wipers had frozen. This was a bit frustrating, however once they got a liberal dose of anti-freeze sprayed on them they were fine. I think I will have a look around and see if I can find some more better wiper blades though.

Re: FJ makes a great snowcatcher

That's my major concern as well...the wipers. It's bad enough to have 2 freeze up, now we have to deal with 3.
Has anyone found a good winter blade for the FJ??

Yeah, drove through almost-blizzard conditions a couple weeks ago and had to pull over @ 3 times in 1 hour due to ice buildup on windshield wipers. (Mostly center and passenger side.) The snow was wet and sticky so I'm hoping it was just really perfect conditions for buildup.

Re: FJ makes a great snowcatcher

The other day I did a little research on this subject and found this site helpful - Aftermarket and OEM windshield wiper blades & systems | Trico Products. I built a collage of information in the following word document that addresses this issue somewhat, although the website has a lot more information. It seems they offer three different types specifically for winter icy conditions - Innovision, Winter Blade, and Winter Teflon Blade. Note that the middle and passenger side are 14" blades and the driver's is a 16" blade. Although not shown on the table the Innovision and Winter Teflon Blade are available for the driver's side, but not listed for the 14" blade (should you dig into their website).

Re: FJ makes a great snowcatcher

I tried the teflon blades last year and they are positively garbage. They were totally worn out and smearing in 5 weeks time, and this was in almost entirely rain. Not much winter here last year. What a dissappoitment.

Thanks a bunch, KLD; you're an asset to this board that I'm not sure could ever be replaced.
We owe ya.

Re: FJ makes a great snowcatcher

I bought Teflon blades (Motomaster brand) from CanadianTire.com for my Audi - they worked well and were $25 a pair. At some point I will replace these as well since they seem as basic as my stock Audi blades did.

For now with a RainX treatment (better solutions exist but I already owned a bottle) on all windows I am doing fine for now.

Re: FJ makes a great snowcatcher

Guys...guys...there're two whole threads on this--- search 'wiper'

Short answer is you can get any number of winter blades in 16" but
there are basically none in 14" so you have to use 13" on the other
two.
