Gun Rack for FJ

I know this is gonna sound very red-neck, but I have to ask for some ideas.
Has anyone came up with a way to carry there firearms...ie such as a gun rack. I usually lean mine in the front seat, but the darn seat belt buzzer keeps going off when I hit the trail. Any suggestions?? I know stupid question, but this forum has answered so many of my questions and has safed me tons of money....so I thought I'd throw this out there.

Re: Gun Rack for FJ

It works really well if you place the muzzle right between the mirror and body. Them road signs'll never have a chance. Ok now that the red neck joke is done you need to be more specific on what size/type of firearm you are planning on carrying in the truck and for what purpose does it need to be quickly accessable for those signs, or self defense for that matter, or is it just to stow it till you get to your favorite hunting spot?

Re: Gun Rack for FJ

Sorry, I should have been more specific.....some where to stow until reach favorite hunting spot. I thought about mounting a rack on the rear door, but the door is to narrow.

I thought the same thing how about a diagonal mounting on the back door, or the back of the seats for that matter? Also the rear celing might offer some great solutions as there are no speakers up in there. I have read about one member who got a celing box of sorts but he put it in the front. I should mention that the 1box was not designed for the FJ so some fairly major modification was done.

Re: Gun Rack for FJ

Well the first thing you need to do is turn the seat belt buzzer off. Just do a little search. As far a gun racks go. Look at these.

Re: Gun Rack for FJ

How about a dog guard with a rack on it? Or maybe a cop-style rack where the butt sits on the floor with the barrel clamped to the dash?

Re: Gun Rack for FJ

I use this: Cabela's Backseat Gun Rest
There are a lot of different styles available if you look around.

Re: Gun Rack for FJ

Thanks all for the replies and ideas. I've thought about the backseat gun rest, however I have 2 boys riding in the back seats most of the time playing there games on the dvd headrest...lol....good baby sitter .

I really like the link 20Montana provided. I was thinking of something to mount in the rear (long ways). Maybe I can modify one to fit.

Next will be determining where to put fishing rods....maybe build mounts on roof rack with pvc pipe......man i miss having a bed (pickup)....but I'm not giving up my FJ.

Re: Gun Rack for FJ

I'm waiting for the ARB turret mount with twin 50's. With only 2 baja lights it gives game a sporting chance!

Maybe someone will come up with a gun rack that attaches to the inside right rear window area. Is the length long enough there? Didn't think about this until you mentioned it. Is the rear glass/door wide enough? I love design problems. When my wife gets her FJ I'll come up with one if nobody else has.
