deposit question 2

how long after i have put down my 500 refundable deposit should the dealer be able to give me a firm date on the arrival of my fj?

seems like my deposit is just sitting there, and the dealers will just hope to get lucky if it comes in, or maybe checking around at other dealers....

shouldnt they be ordering it from japan?

Re: deposit question 2

You should go to your dealer and have them preference a FJ for you then hope Toyota picks up the request to build it. Then again, if they have had your $$$$ for a while and have done nothing, perhaps it's time to go elsewhere

Re: deposit question 2

It could depend on what number you are in line. I didn't put down any deposit and I'm 4th in line. The first guy on the list got the first one that came in yesterday. I've been told that mine should be in the second allocation which should arrive April 15th. It seems that the allocation dates have changed since they first told me in February that the first one would arrive on the 27th.

Re: deposit question 2

thanks guys.

other1, ill give my dealer a call and ask him if he has 'preferenced' one for me. ( key word,eh? )

kozway, i am number 3 on the list for manual trans at 1 dealer, and at the other dealer, i dont know....
these guys are incredibly ignorant about their product. they didnt even know if they had the brochures when i asked for one ( 2nd place where i have a deposit )

Re: deposit question 2

I think every dealership is different. If they are a well developed business, there is a set way to preference and order a car and or a set a waiting list. As for the 1st allocation, the dealer can ask for a particular package but will not necessarily get everything they want. On future allocation I bet you can ask and get a particular package.

I've known dealerships to throw the waiting list out the door when a relative or good friend wants a popular car. It all takes connections or a reliable salesperson.

Toyo of Dublin said they had a VB one coming in on Tuesday. Don't know the options or if it's AT vs. MT.

thanks sandi,
i called yesterday and they only have automatics coming in. i asked about ordering and putting a deposit down.
he said check or credit card is fine.
he explained to me that if you use a credit card, they charge 500 bucks on it, but if you write a check, they just hold on to it.
i just dont trust dealers enough to write checks and then maybe have to fight them to get them back, whereas with a credit card, the credit card co. does the fighting for you.
your thoughts on this? sandi? anyone?
