Toyota dealer thought they had a sucker on the lot!

I had put out some calls to several dealerships in my area asking them to give me a call when the FJ's came in. I got a call today and the dealer said to come down and check it out. I informed him that I was still trying to sell my pickup and wouldn't be able to do the deal until it was sold. He said to bring it down and they would give me a good price. I asked if they had a manual trans FJ because thats all I was interested in. He said they did and I asked how much it was going for.... you sitting down... he replied $37,750. I laughed and said I thought the manual trans models would be going for around25 to 30k and he said that this model was loaded. I laughed and said good bye. I want to ask you guys how an FJ cruiser with a manual trans gets to the price point of 38k? Looks like I will be getting a Jeep Wrangler.

Wow. They'd have to give you a pretty good trade to make that worthwhile!

I just did the build thing on Toyotas web site and loading up the vehicle with options I could only get it to around 32k MSRP. This dealer must have been marking up the price several thousand.

It gets there with some "dealer options" and a 3-5K Mark up....

Na..Na..Na don't give up yet you just got a moron! Was it Scottsdale? They are to be had for under 30k (not much right now though) Hang out here for a while you will be up to speed on what to and what not to do,Having to sell your truck first will be your allie right now as with the launch only a couple days ago the greedy dealers are all showing them selfs and smelling blood right now ...Kick back give it a couple of months they will all sink back down to the bottom of the barrell....And welcome

Re: Toyota dealer thought they had a sucker on the lot!

that's called straight up the butt with no vaseline

here's one for you, from today.....

so i took my kids up to lawrence hall of sciences this morning to see some robotic dinosaur things, "big dinos",...pretty cool actually (uc berkeley). on the way back we were driving by berkeley toyota (channing/shattuck). decided to round the block and take a look in the windows and wouldnt you know it, they had a silver decked out FJ, BFGs n all - beautiful (not as beauty as the black though ). so i decided to go in right quick,....here's how it went down.

toyoguy: "hello how may i help you"

me: "im interested in the FJ"

toyoguy: "blah blah, new, blah blah, allocation, blah blah, same ole ****"

me: "well i want one as soon as possible. what are you asking? i understand they will all be selling at MSRP for the time being"

toyoguy: "blah blah, prius, blah blah, upgrades only, blah blah, same ole ****"

me: "i will pay whatever you are asking, $5000 over is what i hear is the going markup"

toyoguy: "we havent evaluated the market just yet as this is our first FJ. however i would say in the neighborhood of $5000 is accurate. this one will go fast"

me: "i will pay more than that if it gets me that silver FJ"

toyoguy (eyes ****ing light up, nipples are visually erect now): "well let's see what kind of deal we can work out"

me: "nnnnnnnnnnah man, im just ****in with you!!! $5000 over is bull**** dude!! call me when you can make ME a deal"

and gave him my business card. his eyes went from sparkling to confused to pissed off in a split second.

eveil, but holy **** that was fun!!!

Re: Toyota dealer thought they had a sucker on the lot!

Hummm...any one else seeing a trend here ? I have done up 3 or 4 of them now....Nothing more amusing than to see how serious they are while telling you what you know is pure unfiltered BS, Trying not to laugh at them or just flat out deck em and walk away is the hard part...I usualy will engage them for a while let them finish there song and dance before I calmly start sliding in the real base price, there cost on the options the differance between UP and UR how to open the rear window ect,ect ! The look on there faces should be on the mastercard comercials.............priceless
