this past weekend I spent Saturday afternoon teaching my 15 year old daughter to drive in the FJ! What a great vehicle to teach in. Safe, comfortable and pretty damn cool!!! Link to the video is below!
didt work for me. my gf's dad let her drive his jeep in a parking lot after a local show. she didnt ahve her license and it was her first time driving a manual. imagine the gearing, flex, and body roll. that thing almost went upside down in the parking lot. i taught her how to drive a manual and she has since bought a new manual bug. she does fine in my jeep now, and she actaully wheeled this one on the rubicon last time out. that is her int he passenger seat.
I don't think the FJ is a great vehicle to learn how to drive in. It would however be a good truck to learn how to drive MT if someone already knew the rules of the road. I learned to drive in a POS regular cab pickup. It had great visibility, not a lot of room for friends and was slow all good things for a 16 year old to be driving. The Fj is safe but I think for a beginner the visibility may cause issues and the "cool factor" adds to the "show off factor". But if shes a responsible girl and good driver more power to her. Lucky girl!!

Thought the same thing about being a vehicle that my offer some distractions for a new driver. However, I think there's a lot to say about features or the FJ's misgivings that force one to take an extra look or have a wider peripheral perspective. She's definately not one to show off and will definately never drive the FJ without me. She's very lucky to learn in the FJ. She actually wants a Toyota pickup (used).
