Is the whine from the rear end normal?

I noticed that at around 50 mph and higher I get a noticeable whine from the rear of the vehicle. Sounds like the rear diff but am not sure. If it is normal I won't worry about it.

Thanks, DEWFPO

I only get a whine from the rear when I make my wife sit back there....

Seriously, check you tire balance and air pressure first. If those are okay, time to start looking at the drive train.

Re: Is the whine from the rear end normal?

I have checked the tire pressures and adjusted all 4 even at 32 psi. The whine is noticeable at highway speeds so light to moderate throttle. I'll have to check to see if it does it while coasting or heavier acceleration.

sounds like the rear diff might have a little slop in the ring gear adjustments. this is what warrantees are for.

Re: Is the whine from the rear end normal?

I have the exact same whine in the rear, mine is at 60-65. I thought it was the tires, but after changing the pressure +/-, still the exact same noise. I did take it to the dealer and of course they did nothing and looked at me like I was on crack. My truck makes the the whine noise during acceleration past 60 mph, but gets louder after I hit 65 mph and coast. Any suggestions would be great.

Re: Is the whine from the rear end normal?

I got the same problem. I posted about this earlier. Sometimes it gets very loud. It makes the noise at any speed after truck comes up to operating temp. Dont think its the diff because sometime just sitting at a red light it still makes noise. Beginning to think its electrical. Really hate to take it to dealer.
