Re: What are owners thoughts on the compass, temp, and inclo, gauges?

Well I have to agree with the majority. I Think they are *****in. They remind me of my mom's ol' 84 tercel 4x4 that had similar gauges. I love nostaliga!

What do you owners think of the trio of gauges? How useful are they? Any problem viewing them in bright sunlight? Feedback please.
Is this retrofitable??? I have a barebones FJ.

I think the compass array is great. easy to read too! But I think toyota could have put them in an overhead location(plenty of room there) and then I could use the full dash board as a picnic table or as a place for small kids to sleep when camping!!!

Temp gauge saved my ass in freezing rain in the Rockies last weekend. Or, at least, reassured it.

I can't get the compass to calibrate correctly. It's weird I go "west" on one street then I go the opposite way and it says I am going "nort" oh well. Temp gauge is awesome so is the inclinometer

Have any of you tried the calibration that the dealers are supposed to do before delivery? I saw it n one of the manuals posted on here but don't remember which one

Re: What are owners thoughts on the compass, temp, and inclo, gauges?

Personally I don't care for the fact that the trio of gauge takes up room on the dash. Although I have come to appreciate compass and temperature gauges on my other vehicle, they can be located in a less conspicuous location IMO. No need to look at them every few seconds. I don't ever plan to get too close to where the inclinometer becomes necessary.

If Toyota would make ATRAC and the 115V 400 watt features available separately from the UP or UR packages (you can get rear differential lock separately for $340), this topic would be a moot point for me. $2560 for the UP package is a lot of money for many things I don't find desireable.

I agree whole-heartedly with you, Law Dog! Most of the items in those packages are items I would never want nor need, so why spend that much $$? The ATRAC and 115V 400 watt are about it! Something else I could go for, too, would be sun visor extenders, like I had on my Element!

Does anyone know of an aftermartket/universal inclinometer?

Re: What are owners thoughts on the compass, temp, and inclo, gauges?

I got a base FJ as well and should take delivery in the next few weeks. I ALREADY miss the temp gauge and a useful compass would be helpful.

Any ideas or suggestions where to find either other than the FJ option?

Thanks.
