I've noticed the compass moves when I'm next to a large tuck in traffic. No big deal just kinda funny.
As a whole I really like them!
Digital compasses respond in a similar fasion to regular compasses. typically when you put them next to large hunks of Iron (M1A1 abrams, Battleships, Haul Trucks, Semi's, H2's) the local magnetic field is perturbed enough for the compass to be off.
Normally not a problem in Off-road environments.
Note, however that it IS right next to a LARGE hunk of Iron (not to mention Electric currents moving behind the dash). the "calibration mechanism" is what gets this solved. However (from personal experience with more expensive Digital Compasses ) you aren't really going to get much better than ~5 degrees sitting atop the dashboard.
Most LCD's displays emit polarized light, if you are wearing polarizing shades you will not have much fun reading them (try a laptop screen to see what I mean).
and to answer the OP's post, I like the inclinometer, and the outside temp. The compass is only moderatley useful.

My inclinometer doesn't really react to grades. It only moves when I hit the brakes and the front dips, or when I accelerate. If I'm on a steep incline but moving at a constant velocity, it reads level. Is that the way it's supposed to work?

ditto. "Gauges?! We don't need no stinking gauges!"
Maybe it's a Utah thing:
this is the place, no need for directions;
see any snow on the ground? yes- it's cold, no- it's hot;
when I'm drunk I may lean, if I lean to far I fall down.

I like the clinometer because it reminds me of my old '87 4Runner. It had the gauges in the same location. I am surprised though that Toyota didn't put them overhead. There is a lot of unused space up there and having an unobstructed dash could be useful.
Re: What are owners thoughts on the compass, temp, and inclo, gauges?
These guages are kind of a joke. Take up dash real estate, not very well thought out. I think marketing wanted it for kid appeal at point of purchase. For the money, I would have preferred a basic trip computer with compass, gas mileage, miles to empty , temp etc. Center dash would have been a better location for optional Nav system instead of the driver glove box ( a really usefull and needed storage space).
