Re: Back door opening size?
Roof rack is on the vehicle, which is on a ship floating in the mid-Pacific Ocean. Didn't think I could get a 4x8 piece of plywood in a FJ, but am more curious as to how much height is between the floor (folded down seats) and
the ceiling (headliner)?
Since I can't find the answer here I guess I'll have to go down to the stealership and measure.
Thought that there was a reason for this forum to exist! It's called helping your fellow FJ enthusiast's!

dude- don't get so pissy. In the hour since you posted, no one who looked at your post has gotten up from their computer (probably at work) to go measure their truck. In due time someone will get there. Unless of course you piss them off and they don't just to spite you!

Re: Back door opening size?
I can't measure for you because my truck is in the shop and I have this really ugly Dakota rental instead... but I will say that I just BARELY got an approx 33" x 40" bookcase in there. ALmost ripped the headliner, which I have been told is 600 bucks to replace. I'd prefer it if the ceiling were just voodoo bloo metal... Put it on your roof rack. The FJ is not a pick up... I am still getting used to that, as a former Tacoma owner.
You can fit a 4'x4' half-sheet inside the FJ. It will go in the door tilted diagonally and lay down flat once inside (on top of the wheelwell humps). But there's no way you'll come close to fitting a full 4x8 sheet in there. There's only 5 or 6' of length to work with in the cargo area depending on front seat position. (search "can I sleep in it")
Sheets of plywood do fit very well on the rack. The rails are approx 40" apart so the 48" wide sheet sits well with a few inches overhang on each side, and the length is just right too. I've hauled stacks of 4x8 sheetrock and MDF on the rack with no problem.
Also, 8' lengths of lumber fit nicely in the cargo area sticking out the back window. Heh, I've been doing some basement finishing.
