Thumbs up Real Life MPG - 2418 trip miles

Real Life MPG - 2418 trip miles

I just got back from a business trip that covered 2418 miles.

No more than 50 miles was on a interstate highway

Numerous hours of idling while waiting to photograph animals

Around 300 miles on 4 wheel drive roads

4 days of driving in downtown Reno

About 1000 miles of wind of at least 30 miles per hour. Not a wind pushing me but most of the time coming from the side.

Trip MPG = 20.3

That's very good MPG. Do you have a 4X2 with AT? No extra weight in the car? Never over 60MPH? I would be very happy with that number.

I have the 4 wheel drive model and used 4 wheel drive on some of the back roads. Over 60 only for the few miles I was on the Interstate. The car was packed with clothes for a week for my wife and I and lots of camera equipment.

I was very happy with the MPG on its first trip.

I asked because the 4X2 AT gets the best MPG. Also weight and driving over 60MPH effect MPG results. Nice driving.

Thanks for the kind comment. I am an old guy and I just don't get in a hurry about anything.

Re: Real Life MPG - 2418 trip miles

I drive just under 10 miles each way to work and home. Half highway, half in town. Then some stop and go if I go to the store or out to lunch. I average 18.5 in the summer with A/C on. Now in winter with a 5 minute warm up before I hit the road 17.5 MPG.

Last spring I took it to Denver and back. Half was two lane semi mountain roads at 65 MPH and then interstate at 80-85. Average for the trip 23.5 MPG!

4X4 AT, no roof rack yet. Might look for one at the summit in Ouray.

My low fuel light turns on at between at around 270-290 miles when driving an average work week. Then takes 15 gallons to fill. Highway it comes on at around 350 miles. Is this about where other people notice theirs coming on??

Wondering if altitude has anything to do with it. I live at 5300 feet. Thinner air, less drag. That's a nice thing about computer controls. My old ride with a carb ran pretty fat up here.

That's one reason we fly the company plane up high, way faster with the same fuel flow.
