Waxing FJ

I guess these FJs dont come with a coat of wax do they?
I woud like to apply a coat soon to protect "Javari's" Voodoo Blue skin from the Texas sun.
I am thinking of just using a pure carnuba wax after the first wash.
Anyone have any suggestions on brands? Techniques?

Thanks,
p

Re: Waxing FJ

if you want to have a serious nice looking paint check out www.zainostore.com . Even though this is more of a show car polish look, it is a great sealent and protects the paint. Alot of steps and a little on the expensive side, but if you want your car to have that wet paint look (when its not covered in dirt) then check this out. I used it on my 350z, but the Fj is a totally different vehicle and you might not want that look.

Re: Waxing FJ

I personaly love Zaino, its a bit exspensive but its 100% increadable, its a polish not a wax, and after you do the first aplication (3 layers) yu hose it off and the dirt just slides off dry it down and if nessisary a quick shot of Z18 detailer to bring out the luster... After the first car I used it on I wont settle for anything less.. I have to get it on this week while its still fresh and new..

Wow, that stuff is blingalicious. But it's too much $$$$ and too much work.
Give me suggestions for the workingmans wax.

Re: Waxing FJ

OMG, so many products out there, so many web sites specifically to help answer those questions. Try http://www.autopia.org There are mainstream products and highly specialized products. Waxes, polishes, protectorants, and selants. The most popular brand me thinks is Meguire's and Zaino, just to name two, but my preference is the following.

wash with dawn if it's your first wash, subsequent washes use a non wax removing solution- microfiber rag or mitt
two bucket method
clay whole car (except plastics, and not every time, maybe once a year)
Vanilla Moose wax/hand glaze with random orbital- orange pad
carnauba moose or S100 carnuba wax- black pad
wipe down with microfiber rag and quick shine.
wash and wax rims, dress tires

tips
-always wipe hood in a front back front motion NOT side to side
-wipe up and down on side of car
-wash top then bottom (to avoid transfering road dirt)
-use lotsa water

Product links
clay bar- any brand that's cheap they're all about the same I use abrand from Pep Boys, forgot the name, picture of a clay man on front it comes with clay and a lubricant.
Moose products - http://www.clearkote.com
best source for microfiber stuff and auto cleaning supplies- http://www.pakshak.com
Another specialty cleaning products that I like and use- http://www.poorboysworld.com great sealants (EX Sealent)

There's alot more produts and info out there. I've been trying to keep a black MB E320 clean for many years so I think I've tackled the hardest color! and kept it swirl free!!

I'm happy to answer any questions!

T

NOTE: I do not have a financial interest in any of the mentioned products and/or companies, just a satisfied customer

Re: Waxing FJ

Always been partial to Zymol. They even have a chart for what type of wax to use with what color of vehicle you have. Not the best website, but awesome products.

Zymol Car Care Products

Color Wax Chart

Some of their waxes can get pretty 'spensive. $1852.00! Yow! Does come with unlimited lifetime refils though.

VINTAGE Wax

This place has some real nice, and ingeneous car cleaning products. Some over priced, some not, all quality. Order a catalog.

Re: Waxing FJ

I don't know if it is true anymore, but my paint guy friends about 5 years ago recommended not waxing a new car for at least 4 weeks....said that new paint was 95% cured, but would still be soft for a while....waxing would result in swirls for sure.....
