sorry if this has been posted (I searched w/o any results), but what does fj stand for?
As well, bj ?...the 1st toyota cruiser?

3 months ago the wife thought it meant F**kin Jeep!
Now that we have picked it up (and she has acknowledged that I was right and she was wrong and I get to sing the I Was Right Song) she gets just as upset as I used to when someone asks if it's a new Jeep or Hummer.
Actually, I think it was simply the internal model code back in the day.

FJ stands for Future Jeep type vehicle.

F and B are related to engine choice. The original FJ40 used the "F" engine. B is the diesel engine.
J really does stand for Jeep.

I read some where that back in the day , that the Land cruiser was the first stock rig to make it all the way up Mt. Fuji in Japan. So it became the FJ. I don't know if its true , but it sound good!!!!!!

J= Platform
40, 60, 62= Model
Cressida Breakd down Example (MX-83):
M= 7M-GE/GTE I-6
X= Chassis
62, 72, 73, 83= Models
LandCruiser 100 series Example UZJ-100
UZ= 2UZ-FE V8 poerplant
J=...go figure
100= model
