Sort of, was getting ready to sell/trade my Z71 when I spied some cool looking blue thing driving doen the road.
Wet to the dealership and took one for a test drive 3 days later picked up my FJ.
you "wet" to the dealership, oh my! held it for 3 days test driving, huh, wow, that's excitement, hope your seats dry out!! !!! sorry couldn't help myself. me bad.
No. Just when I was getting desperate because my toddler son was beginning to be able to kick my 4x4 TRD Tacoma out of gear, I spied this awesome looking SUV. I went out of my way to stalk the thing, figure out what it was, and then the plotting began. Not one word to my husband, knowing he was going to freak, but a well thought out email a few months later, detailing my reasons and offering up a few deals that he couldn't refuse. The negotiations with my husband went much easier than anticipated. Wish I could say the same about the dealer negotiations, LOL.
(a) Researched it prior to the public release circa March 06.
(b) Wife hated it.
(c) Worked a second job to silence her complaints.
(d) Paid cash the day before Christmas 06
Impulse buy? No.
And I love the FJ.
Wife still doesn't like it, refused to drive it.
All's well that ends well.

I researched the FJ for about 6 months before my wife and I went to the dealer to "Just Price One". Drove "One" home. I Love it. Now if I can just get my wife from behind the wheel....

I've been wanting one since the day I saw it but never got to test driving one. Eventually the feeling passed. Then about a week ago, I saw one on the road with different rims and black on black top. Instantly, I wanted one again. Went to the dealership that weekend (last weekend), test drove one and took one home the next day. I don't regret it so far only I wish I talked them into throwing a roof rack. Otherwise, I love it!
my pops saw it and basically had to have it. the mom says no more cars! so my dad decides that my vw bug could be the down payment and i would get the FJ. so he could technically own it, but it would be mine. now i have an FJ, and he wants one for himself even more since he has to look at it then climb into his '93 Ram.
For me no I did alot of research and lurking on this site prior to purchase. I wated till oct to buy but wish I had got a nov model with the factory atrac locker hack already done. I was looking at both the JK 4dr and the FJ. I have been a jeep person since I got my license. I was impressed with the fact that every part of the FJ was proven elsewhere first prior to being put in the FJ. The JK on the other hand was alot of new stuff and not proven. The engine wasnt proven for the application of offroad and there is alot f new suspension stuff that all though very cool could have problems in the future. Both vehicles where designed to be modified. Then came the price between a Rubicon JK and the FJ. The FJ won hands down on that. I feel proud to be a former Jeep guy now driving a toyota. I know that alot of hardcore Toy folks are not happy with the fact that there are alot of 1st time toy owners in FJ's. I am now lookin for a 97 Landcruiser to chop and mod for a truggy I plan to make. Before the FJ I would have never even looked in this direction. So thanks FJ for bringing me to the landcruiser family.
Just for info I did alot of research on the lexus and prado before buying my FJ to look at reliability of the parts and the Taco for the engine.

I bought it without seeing it or driving it. Called the dealer, told him what I wanted and he delivered it to my office 3 days later. I'm not even sure how to get to the dealer.
I've wanted a Toyota since my first repair trip to the dealer with my Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 in 1998.
4Runner = More than I wanted
Rav4 = Less than I wanted
I didn't know about the FJC until a new employee drove theirs to my place of business... I walked around it with my eyes glazed over... looked it up on the web... took the afternoon off and drove to the nearest dealership (25 miles)... test drove the service managers FJ (only one on the lot)... found out there were 3 on a truck inbound (about a week out)... signed the papers.
