Frame Rust Revisited

Peeked under the truck today after a nice day of a little offroading......and saw more rust than I expected. Now.......it's only been driven in salty weather twice and both times powerwashed underneath. I know we had this rust problem on the frame before winter even arrived. Should I care about these spots, or will they not rust further?

Re: Frame Rust Revisited

It seems on mine at least the powdercoat or paint on the frame is peeling off of the welds only the rest of the frame is fine .

Re: Frame Rust Revisited

isn't it a little odd that I should have to worry about this on such a new truck? is it possible it's treated with something that wouldn't let these spots spread?

this is the only place I happened to look.........I didn't even look at the rest of the frame

Re: Frame Rust Revisited

Use POR-15, you can get it at a place called Quadratec.

I did my Rubicon's frame and skid plates and was amazed at how tough it was...just paint it right over the rust and it works like magic.

Re: Frame Rust Revisited

Yep, The POR 15 will be useful for the Series too.....you sure you don't have any? I think it's a "first mod" for most Land Rover owners.
It chemically turns the rust into this funky black ceramic like stuff

I think it's already done.......everything under the '67 is coated in something black. I'm assuming it's this stuff?

Re: Frame Rust Revisited

I usually don't push products on people, but this one is the final word in rust.

Before knowing about POR-15, I would rattle can my frames (3 TJs and a CJ-7) and have to keep doing it. The POR-15 literally stops the rust and reverses the rusting process.

It costs about $28 per pint, but trust me you won't be in the least bit sorry. I was able to do the entire frame and skid plates with one small can & brush.
