Re: Ordered the FJ Rear Door Storage

Installed mine in the top position. Now, would have prefered the bottom. So will get another. Took longer to cut and tape templete then drill and plug.
Will slightly move the two outboard drill points wider about 1/16" to allow a little more tension on the cord.

Re: Ordered the FJ Rear Door Storage

It took me longer to decide to put it on the top or bottom then to install the stupid thing.

Have (1) net for lower door installation on my wish list - Father's Day is coming up so let the "hinting" begin!

Re: Ordered the FJ Rear Door Storage

I ordered both and put them on a couple of weeks ago. I wasn't really impressed with the whole template thing and it didn't make sense until I saw you had to really flex the plastic frame for the net to make the thing fit right.
They (Toyota of Dallas I think it was) did through in a free pair of FJ Cruiser gloves.

Re: Ordered the FJ Rear Door Storage

I just installed on the lower half. I only used the template for the top 2 holes. Then I mounted the net and used it for the template for the rest of the holes. It worked slick and quick. I did it in the dark and misdrilled on hole, but I don't think it is going to make a big difference.

I cleaned up all the little stuff that was floating around. That much I like.

I paid $29 for the extra door net at the dealership. THey asked some outrageous price, and I said that that is what it costs online, and so that is what he charged me, no problem.
That's the first time I ever heard of that...

Re: Ordered the FJ Rear Door Storage

I'm a big fan of ToyotaPartsPeople.com, actually any *****PartsPeople.com subset they have.

I've used them for accessories for my old Infiniti FX, wife's old RX-8 & Mazda 3, my folks Subaru Tribeca (unfort they don't sell a paper bag for the front), a friend's Acura RDX, another friend's Caravan, and my father in-laws Mustang (they loved the stuff as holiday gifts!). They've always been lower then stealerships, Ebay, and reasonable in shipping.

For example, regarding the nets, I order two and the OEM brush gaurd; all together came to $500 shipped ($39 for shipping - but you got to quote the website when you order).

I'm now at the dealer (Fitz) having all 3 installed for $90!

Maybe being female SOMEtimes has its advantages... I've been doing that all the time in the parts dept at my local dealer. They cave immediately. Probably not used to a female buying all sorts of stuff in there. They know me already.

Re: Ordered the FJ Rear Door Storage

Installed a lower one a few months ago. The top elastic strap is kinda wimpy. Thinking about threading a wire through it and coiling both ends around the top push-in connectors.

Great minds think alike....

I agree it is wimpy. I am going to use a piece of black cord, knot it and pass it through a hole at the top of each side then use one of those cord tightener thingeys (like you find on hoods, elastic waist bands on jackets and such). This way I can put something in there and cinch it up tight.
